The Georgia Baptist Fospital has
leased from H. J. Bruce, owner, a three
story and basement brick building on
the northeast side of Nassau street, be
tween Bartow and Walton, for five
years at §1,600 a_yvear, and will take pos
session about Monday.
This structure, was built by Mr. Bruce
two years ago and has been leased for
a short term to several concerns. It is
on a lot 40 feet square, with 6,400 square
feet of floor space.
The Georgia Baptist Hospital is lo

Dr. J. Sprole Lyon Hears of the
Demise of Dr. Edward 0,

Dr, J. Sprole Lyon, pastor of the
First Presbyterian Church, Thursaay
recelved news of the death in Doug
las, Ga., of Dr. Edward O. Guerrant,
78, of Wilmore, Ky., one of the most
distinguished ministers in the South
ern Presbyterian Church. Dr. Guer
rant was at the home of his daughter,
in Douglas, at the time of his death,
he having stopped over there on his
way to Kentucky from his winter
home in Florida. * The body will be
taken Thursday afternoon to Ken
tucky for the funeral.
Dr. Guerrant was a brilllant pulpit
orater mnd a striking figure in the
Southern Presbyterian Church, He
was a graduate of Center College,
Kentucky, and for a long while wag a
prominent physician. He entered the
ministry in 1875, and held a number
of pastorates in Kentucky, including
the First Presbyterian Church, of
Louisville, the former pastorate of
Dr. Lyon, He later was called to
evangelistic work in Kentucky, and
organized the “American Inland Mis
sion,” devoting his energies to the up
lift of the mountain classes. He
wrote several books dealing with the‘
spread of the gospel in the moun
tains and the situation there gen-‘
erally.
Dr. Guerrant was a Confederate vet
eran, having won a brilllant record
as a soldier as a member of John
Mergan’'s famous command.

The funeral of Mrs. Samuel Newelt,
80, who died Wednesday at the

was held there Thursday, Rabbi
David Marx officiating, and the In
terment was in Oakland.
The funeral of Mrs. R. L. Mansfield,
40, who died Tuesday at the home,
No. 182 West Fair street, was held
Thursday from Poole's, and the in
terment was in Westview, &.
The body of J. H. Williams, 37,“wh0
died Wednesday afternoon at a pri
vate hospital, is at Poole's awalting
funeral arrangements. Mr, Will
liams is survived by a brother, I

years a resident of Washington, D.

the Confederacy to build a giant

eracy. In her afidavit, Mrs. Roper
cxpressed herself as in sympathy with
the movement for the memorial, and
indicated that she would sign the
deed of the memorial association
wien it is presented to her, She de
clared that no deed had been pre
sented to her for her signature, and
that she had not been informed as to
any of the detalls of the plan.
The hearing on the merits of Mrs,
'Roper’s petition for injunction, in
which she asserts she is a partner in
'the business of Venable Bros., is
scheduled for May 13.

of M. Orovitz, a prominent Jewish
merchant of Waycross, formerly a
resident of Unadilla, who died this
morning at the Xing's Daughters’
Hospital without regaining con
sciousness after being attacked late
Wednesday in one of his stores here.
His head was badly battered, probably
with a pistol. :
Orovitz was known as a quiet and
conservative business man and as far
as officers know had no trouble of
any kind in his business dealings.
He came here five years ago and had
been very successful. He was found
in the back of his Thomas street
store In a pool of blood. The attack
apparently was made about 4 o’clock.
It was an hour later that he was dis
covered. His skull was fractured by
one of the blows delivered by his un
known assailant. Investigation by
the police has caused the robbery
theory to be abandoned. Neither
city nor county officers have made
any arrests as yet, but it is under
stood developments are expected
within the next twelve hours,
Besides his wife, Orovitz is sur
vived by six children. He has a
brother at Pelham and numerous rel
atives at Cordele and Savannah. Cor.
