For the gir! and the fox-fur form:'
the theme of my story—a pretty
blonde member of the schoolgirl or
college set—and her neckpiece of
‘snowy whiteness which she wears/
with every evening costume she donsg
this winter. To be gure. there is noth-
Ing strange in this, either, considering
the weather we're—my dear, lsn’t it
awful! Never “down South” did 1 see
the likes of it before! But where was
[? Right there with the girl and the
white fox-fur. The latter is very be- |
coming to the former. I'll admit this
at once, Bo did her mother, and the
‘rest of the family—the first half dos.
en times she wore it. Then mother |
grew a little tired of the fox-fur, so |
ventured a protest |
“Dear, don't you think that frock
looks better without the fur? l
Gentle protests didn’t go. Next
time: |
“l 1 really think you'd better leave off
the fox tonight lam tired of see
ing 1t” i
Still no resuit—then:
“For goodness sake, leave off that
fox-fur. [ can't stand your wearing
it another time!” I
And yet agaln daughter was
adamant and went to the party with
the becoming white fox around her
pretty girlish shoulders. '\
How long this went on I dont'
know, but finally, I hear, the mother
of the young college belle found out
that a certain extremely popular and
gallant captain in the U. 8. R. told
her one night that she “looked per
fectly lovely in that white fox-fur.”
Which ghe did. too.
Then it happened by ¢h?eo. or the '
captain's plot, no less than eleven
other young officers went up one after
the other and told her she looked per
fectly lovely in the white fox. '
Now, what pretty college girl's head
would not have been dazzled by such
a flood of compliments? |
And what chance in dictating dr'
tails of her costume would a girl's
mother hqve against such a league
of twelve?
(Did 1 choose the right title, now?)

People are no longer ashamed to economize—it is
quite the thing to do.
A large percentage of those who are economizing
now are doing so in erder to more generously support
the various funds that the war has made necessary.
Or they are using what they save by wise buying to
send something to the bays in Servica.
We have noticed many new faces in the Dowa
stairs Seetion recently—eustomers who quite ob
viously are not economizing beeause they have to.
Of first importance are the wise economies to be
practiced in some Special Sales Monday.
