SHOWING HIS PATRIOTISM
IN leaving business, family and home when his country callad him, one
of our Atlanta citizens i 8 now in Uncle Sam’s seg‘vice, stationed -at
Charleston. He wants his wife and ¢ hildren to join hifm there, and be with
him as long as possible before he goes “over there.” This can not be done
until his little home is sold. Who is the other patriotic eitizen willing to help
this younf man, and at the same time help themselves? If you need a nice,
comfortable home this brick veneer bungalow of 6 rooms and sleeping porch
is just about the best thing to be found that is FOR SALE. Real choice
places suitable for homes are getting fewer every day. When one is bought
. how the purchaser buys it to keep, and very few are being built. The price
is about $1,500 less than lot and house will cost to buy and build today. Only

‘We are now going to put on sale four of Mr. Buehl’s honses.
It will be a stroke of good judgment for anyome in search of a
home to buy one of them. f p '
Prices are $£5,500 and upwards. { zs

ATTENTION, HOME-SEEKERS! = -
We advise quick purchase of homes, as conditions are such
that we believe the rent-payer will soon undergo great hardships.

- By BENJAMIN R. PADGETT, JR,
’ Superintendent of Fulton County Home Bullders.
During this strife of war, which is causing chaos in all lines of busk
ness and affecting everybody in some way, it is well to reflect a momeni
and do some sober thinking regarding the future. j
Much stress has’ been laid on the urgent needs
of the Y. M. C. A, the Red Cross, Liberty Bonds
i etex—the importance of which must not be minim
a 0 ized: but we must not lose sight of the startling
/ ‘%W conditions confronting Atlanta. Already every hab:
e itable dwelling, apartment and warehouse is occuw
¢ & pied, and the hotels are turning people away. With
E % #ll in the last year we have had 1,700 homes devasta.tefl
L by fire, with an increased civil population of 20,00
) and 30,000 soldiers. .
And the law of supply and demand applies te
[ - real estate and building prices as well as to othet
| /o commodities. e
| % The Government has acknowledged Atlanta's
s strategic position as the gateway of the Southeast,
and is installing headquarters here for all divisions,
Y the most recent being for railroads. Atlanta’s many
advantages are recognized, and her future firmly es
tablished. Her population will grow with greater acceleration than ever
before. !
| Therefore, any judicious investment made in the real estate will prove
sound; and the safest of all investments, taken in its last analysis, is reai
estate. There are many bargains now being offered by real estate dealers
in houses already built. Builders and workmen are seeking new build
‘lng contracts, but I believe this will soon be reversed, and purchasers
will be seeking their lost opportunity.
‘ Of course it costs more to build now, but there is positively no hope
for prices to react as long as the war lasts, and when it ends, therg
- will be,still greater demand for building supplies for devasted Europe.
| WHEN THE INVESTOR REALIZES THAT THE PUURCHASING
POWER OF OUR MONEY HAS BEEN REDUCED TO LESS THAN ¥
PER CENT EFFICIENCY, just so soon.do I predict a revival of unprece
dented buwilding activity. And this is coming at an early date thorugl
necessity for accommodatibns to meet the demands, and the person wha
has let his opportunity pass by will be in a similar position to the one whe
failed to purchase his coal a few short months ago—when the dealers
it and were-begging its sale. The motto of builders and real estate m:lfi
“first come, first served,” and I give you the tip, “get busy.”
Building Permits for
"2 Bungalows Issued
M. G. Norris, builder, with offices
in the Silvey Building, Saturday was
granted two permits by the Building
Inspector for the purpose of erecting
two bungalows at a total cost of $12,-
000. .
The largér\is to be erected for T.
J. Parker at No. 90 McLendon street,
at a cost of $6,500. It will be a brick
veneer. The other will he erected by
Mr. Norris to be placed on the realty
market later. It wil cost $5,600. He
also took a permit to m¥ke repairs
on a house at No. 615 West Peachtree
street. The work will cost approxi
mately $3,000.
At a called meeting of the executivy
committee of the Atlanta Real Estatq
Board, Saturday morning the plumb«
ing situation was discussed, with the
result that a formal notice hereaftex
will be issued to all tenants, asking
them to shut off water in the event of
cold ; weather, to prevent furthe:
plumbing damages in way of break
ing pipes.
The situation for the last month
has been so acute Tfh\’t the realty
board deemed this actfbn most sig
nificant, as hundreds of follars havq
been\ spent that perhaps could have
‘been saved had tenants observed the
rules by turning off water at night.
As an example of the effect of the
recent freeze, some houses have been
without plumbing for the last two or
three weeks, so many- pipes having
burst that the agents and plumbers
simply could not attend to all of thq
complaints. ‘

eration of $12,000. This is the larg«

aecrsage inm many months, the price
being pald, however, because of thd¢
