school auditorium next Tuesday at 3
o’clock in the afternoon, after which
a permanent organization will be ef
fected and officers elected for the
ensuing year.

Mrs. R. O. Medlock, sqme days during

Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Beautell are
on a visit to their son, Mr. and Mrs.
Joe Bentell, of Savannah, for several
days. They will go to Florida for
some time before returning to their
home here.
Mrs. Charley Craft and little son
have been with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. B. A. Martin, for some time
Mr. Craft came over from his home
in Chattanooga for a few days dur
ing the week.

the city schools to enter the grize essay
contest, the subject being *“The Confed
erate Navy.” The services of the chap
ter for Red Cross work were offered
for every Tuesday afternoon, thls offer
being accepted by Mrs. Sexton. Other
matters of importance came before the
meeting.
A social event of State-wide Interest
was the marriage of Miss Eleanor Lus
trat to Lieutenant Owen Coleman, of
the United States Reserves, of Augusta,
the marriage havinf occurred Tuesday,
January 12, at 3 o'clock, at the home ol
the bride's sister, Mrs. H. T. McHatton.
Mrs. Joseph Lustrat acted as matron o
honor and Miss Martha Coleman as
maid of nonor. Dr. T. D. Coleman was
his son's best man. Father Clark offl
ciated. Following the ceremony, an in
formal reception was held.
The Home School Club met Thursday
morning with Mrs. Hugh Rowe.
February 21 the S. A. E. Fraternity
will entertain the college dancing set
with a larFe danc eat the auditorium.

The second of a series of teas was
Elven at the Hotel Lanier by Red Cross
Jnit No. 4. Miss Evelyn Juhan had
charge and was assisted by Mesdames
Ruffin Chestney, Kingman Moore, Wil
liam Holmes, Roy Moore, Henry Valen
tine and Joe Moore, and Misses Lillian
attle, Leonora Neflf, Margaret Ferrill,
Orlana Gould and Martina Burke.
Mrs, Robert W. Jemison, Mrs. J. A,
Selden and Miss Ida Holt spent several
days last week at the division Red
Cross headquarters in Atlanta, where
they securcd new ideas for a workroom
to be established here.
Mrs. Grant Fuller has returned from
Dublin, where she acted as instructor
for a class in standard dressings of
the Red Cross.
Mrs. Alexander Proudfit entertained
the Macon History Club. Mrs. Edwin
Davis presided. There were musical
numbers by Mrs. Clarence Dennicke and
Miss Florine Burdick. Others who took
part were Mrs. R. J. Taylor, Misg Mar
gie Burke and Mrs. Person Heath,

Colenian, of Augusta, now stationed at
Camp Gordon, to Miss Eleanor Lustrat,
of Athens, took place Tuesday in Ath
ens. Dr. and !\K‘s. Coleman and Miss
Martha Coleman were present at the
ceremony. Lieutenant and Mrs. Cole
man arrived in Augusta Thursday for a
short visit to the former's Yurenln, and
this week will return to Atlanta.

Tuesday night at a Valentine ball.
A concert wus}!lven Wednesday night
at the Bon Alr Hotel by the Royal Bel
gian Trio for the starving chiidren of
Belgium. The society set was out in
full force, with hundreds of tourists.
Over 3700 was contributed in free will
offerings.
There were several hundred present
at the opening dance of the season at
the Lenwood Hotel Saturday night
Many of the officers from Camp Han
cock and their wives were present, with
a number of the Augusta girls and
young married people. The hotel will
give military dances every Wednesday
and Saturday evening from now on.

A MOST interesting event of the
week was a progressgive rook
party given by Miss Kathleen Barton
Saturday evening. After several very
interesting games of rook a salad
