J. G, Lewis Motor Co. Becomes
Distributors for This
Section.
The J. G. Lewis Motor- Company, of
Atlanta, has become distributors of
Mitchell cars for this section. These
cars are extremely popular with par
ticular buyers of motor cars due to thelr
refinement of finish and handsome lines
in conjunction with their proven quality
of material.
The Mitchell exhibit at the recent
shows attracted wide attention. Dur
ing the New York show, John Tanish,
general sales manager of the Mitchell
Motors Company in talking of the trend
of motor car improvements, said:
““The Mitchell policy to manufacture
automobiles of power, endurance and
stabllity on reserve lines of dignity and
elegance still exists, However, there is
always a demand for novelty in motor
cars. Artistic paint combinations ap
peal to some motor enthusiasts who are
always on the lookout for new crea
tions.
“Radical changes in the mechanlical
construction of the cars are few. The
changes in most cases are marked in
body design, in interior turnishlngs and
in minor refinements of the chagsis, en
gine or equipment, For instance, one of
the most beautiful cars in the Mitchell
line is the five-passenger Club Sedan in
the De Luxe model. The exterior color
scheme of this car is of satin finish
blue gray, covering the hood and under
panels of the body. The wheels are car
ried out in the same color. The fenders,
radiator and tire carrier are jet black
in satin finish.
‘“The interior scheme, which bespeaks
refinement, is upholstered in blue gray
Lenox velour to match the satin finish
of the exterior. The interior mountings
are of Mount Vernon silver of the Adam
period.

The Song of the Custom Builder in Careless Rhyme and Reckless Rhythm
To have a car, or two, or ten (
For each occasion where or when
A social duty must be met,
Like gowns for dinner, bridge or dance—

-580 Miles of Bad Roads Covered
i in Thirteen Hours and Fifty

two Minutes.
N —
Over 580 miles of the worst roads in
this country, the stretch between Salt
Lake City and Ely, Nev, and return,
a Chandler Bix made the trip in 13
kours and 62 minutes in tane recent
United States Motor Courier relay
race from Washington to San Fran
cisco.
The Chandler Six was driven by
Frank Navin, of Salt Lake City, and
was a veteran car-that had already
trveled 29,000 miles. The journey lay
over the great American desert and
through the mud flats of Fish Springs.
In places the regular roads were im
passable and the car had to take to
the brush land alongside., In other
places and for miles in a stretch the
roads were so badly rutted and cut by
travel that it seemed folly to try to
negotiate them at more than § or 10
miles an hour.
But the Chandler was out to make a
record trip and to get through with
the messages that were being carried.
The average speed of the car for
the 580 miles of round trip was 4%
miles per hour,
But Navin decided to make the trip
without the second car. He was con
fident that the old Chandler Bix would
get through all right. And it did,
with a wonderful performance to its
credit,
Navin was accompanied by H. 1|
MecPherson, of The Salt Lake City
Herald-Republican, who acted as of
ficial Government representative. Both
men have been made life members of
the National Highways Commigsion,
in recognition of their pluck and
speed.
