remedy that you can make at home:
“Merely get a small box of Orlex

CHICAGO, Oct. B.—With the expectation
that President Wilson will voice an une
quivocal “no"” for the United States and
her allies, to the proposed German peace
feeler, the tone of corn and oats stiffened
at the opening of the Board of Trade.
While the upturn in either grain did not
reach the strength of yesterday, the tone
in both gralns was steadier. Corn led
with an advance of up to & eent and a
half with buyers sufficlently mwmerous to
uphold the gain.
Oats were stronger by fractions with
trade recovering from the first effect of
the pence move. Local houses showed a
tendency to go over to the buying side.

LONDON, Oc¢t. 8.-—~How are the tanks
armed? That question may now bhe ane
swered without revealing military secrets,
for Germany has found out all about the
effectiveness of tanks spitting death in
recent hatties, The ‘old lady” tank has
six Lewis machine guns, while the ‘“old
man'” tank is more formidable with two
fi-pounders, a Hotchkiss machine gun and
four Lewis guns These tnnks weigh 20
tons and carry a crew of elght men each
“Whippet' tanks, of courss, are lighter and
ermed chiefly with mochine guns :
The Germansg try to halt the tanks hy
traps, consisting chiefly of a deep hole
lightly covered over (o egcapa detection ‘
Gung firing armor-plercing bullets anlwo
have come Into play. Tut they haven't
found anything yet to equal a river or
sharp deeclivity as anti-tank medicine
Hence their growing sambition to see wa
ter beyond their front lines.

The fact that the Liberty Pageant to
be given at Lakewood next Saturdsy
night has been excepted from the gen
eral closing order against the “flu” by
agreement of the Cll{ and State Boards
of Health, has inspired the women in
charge to make the event even greater
than was at first planned,
“We were perfectly willing to aban
don the pageant had the authorities so
desired,” stated Mrs. Linton Hopkins,
regent of the Joseph Habersham Chap
ter of the D. A. R., and the originator
of the plan, ‘‘but now that they have so
distinetly said that the pageant should
be given, we feel we owe it to the Reo
ple of Atlanta to give them something
worth while. Everything else will be
closed except the pageant and the fair
and we, therefore, want to make the
pageant good enough to replace all these
other amusements. We bespeak the
loyalty and co-operation of all who will
participate to crown our efforts with
success,'’
Rehearsals for the different episodes
of the pageant are being held nearly
every-afternoon and night this week at
Lakewood, with a final dress rehearsal
of all Thursday afternoon. The pageant
I 8 to be presented at 8 o'clock Satur
day night, with the audiences in the
‘gr:mdst.’md at Lakewood and the differ
ent scenes and tableaux staged in front
!of the grandstand on 2 mammoth stage,
on -the surrounding hills and on the
lake itself.
H. B. Hubbell, well-known costumer,
is expected to reach Atlanta Wednes
day morning from St. Louis, whither he
was sent as a special representative
to - purchase costumes. Mr. Hubbell
telegraphed Monday that he is returning
with the most beautiful set of cos
tunies obtainable. These will be sup
plemented by hundreds of other artistie
costumes on which local seamstresses
have been hard at work for weeks,
It was stated Tuesday that the quar
antine at Camp Gordon will not af
fect the participation in the pageant of
the several military bands that will fur
nish music for the processional and for
the inspiring tableaux at the last, “Co
lumbia's Coming of Age.”
An added feature was announced
Tuesday when the ladies secured the
services of Reese Veatch, Camp Gor
don's song leader, to lead the great au
dience at lLakewood in “The Star-
Spangled Banner,” *“lLa Marsellaise,”
“The Battle Hymn of the Republic.'
and other national airs, winding up
with the greatest national ajr of them
all, “Over There.”
