Skip Stop’ Car System
City Councll at its meeting Monday
afternoon adopted a resolution urging
the Rallroad Commission to order dis
continuance of the skip-stop system
of operating the street cars, which
was ordered some time ago as a tuel“
conservation measure. The reloluuouJ
was offered by Councilman W. H,
Johnson, of the Fifth Ward, who!
pointed out that the need for tho%
measure has passed, and that the
Georgla I illway and Power Com- |
pany admittedly has sufficient power |
now to operate on the old schedule
of stops.
Mr. Johnson declared that the skip
stop plan imposes a hardship on
working people, particularly those liv.
ifdg on the outskirts of the city, where
the stops are few and far between
These people frequently have to walk
long distances to thelr homes after a
hard day’'s work, he declared.

Parade on Streets
To Celebrate Peace
One of the greatest events in
which the negro population of At
lanta ever figured was the peace
demonstration and parade Monday
afternoon, in which several thou--
sand men, women and children par
ticipated, while an even greater
throng, both white and colored,
watched,
If anything were needed to prove
the devotion and patriotism of At
lanta’s negro people, waving flags,
service banners, exultant messages
on placards, and a general air of
jubilation were the proofs.
Negro schools had been closed at
1 o'clock to permit the children to
take part in the demonstration,
either as paraders or spectators.
Others In line Included negro
troops, some of them veterans from
Prance, Red Cross workers and
women of other war organizations,
lodge members, merchants aud
church organizations, Among the
ecivilian marchers were large dele
gations from several negro col
legen.,
It was made apparent by the
representations from organized
bodles that negroes in Atlanta had
gone as resolutely and system
atically into war work as the white
population,
