A MESSAGE
To Those Who Mourn
DINSMORB ELY, American aviator,
was killed in France last spring. His
last letter to his parents, written only &
few hours before his last flight, closed
thus:
“*And 1 want to say. in closing, if anyiting
should happen so me, lel’s have no mouming,
in spiril or in dress. Like a Liberty Bond, il is
an invesiment, nol a loss, when a man dies for
his country. It is an honor to a family, and
is that the time for weeping? I would rather
leawe my family rich in pleasant memories of
my life than numbed in sorroww as my death.

There are tailored hats of velours or stitched-brim velvets, as well as dressier
hats trimmed with flowers, ribbons or furs.
These are to be had in polo or poke shapes, turbans or wide brimmed sailors.
Materials—in addition to velour and velvet—are felt, seratch felt, beaver, cor
duroy and chenille. e
The colors are those that are popular for the season. —

82d Division Officer
.
Given New Command
A letter received in Atlanta from Mrs.
Clarence Deems, Jr., wife of Colonel
Deems, who commanded the 31st Field
Artillery in the Eighty-second Division
when it left Camp Gordon, says that
Colonel Deems has been assigned to
command a brigade of field artillery, the
Fifty-seventh.
‘““While he has not been promoted, he
has been given a general's command,’
writes Mrs. Deems. ‘The 321st did
splendid work right up to the cessation
of fighting, and Colonel Deems was not
given his new command until Novem
ber 11, so he had his regiment right
through to the end of the war.”
Mrs. Deems is in Baltimore, living at
No. 312 Woodlawn road, Roland Park.
