Brigadier General Charles G. Dawes,
who trained in Atlanta as lieutenant col
onel of the Seventeenth Kngineers, has
been decorated for distinguished service
in France by the American, French and
Belgian Governments, according to in
formation received by friends of General
Dawes here, Mrs. Dawes and a party
of Chicago friends are now in Atlanta
The high honors conferred upon Gen
eral Dawes are rewards for his success
ful labors as president of the purchas-~
Ing board of the American army, and as
the American army representdtive an
the military board of Allied supply, Gen
eral Dawes went to France in August,
19017, and was a leader in the organiza
tion of the Allied supply board. In addi
tion to performing valuable service in
ebtaining supplies, he acted" as one of
the directors of transportation and dis
tribution of supplies.
President Wilson first honored General
Dawes by conferring upon him a dis
tinguished service medal s veral weeks
Ago. Then the Belgian Government
awarded him the Order of Leopold, and
now France has made him a Commander
of the Legion of Honor. This latter is
the highest honor conferred upon offi
ecers of lower rank than General Per
#hing. It carries with it an ornate
medal suspended about the neck by a
wide scarlet ribbon.
The Legion of Honor decoration was
awarded General Dawes through the
recommendation of Marshal Petain, upon
the suggestion of General Payot, presi
dent of the Allied supply board. Gen
eral Payot's indorsement was as fol
lows:

heart the insuring of the most inti
mate liaison and the most complete co
operation between the French and Amer
ican services He always has endeavor
ed to smooth out all difculties and to
assure the most cordial understanding
between the two armies, as well as the
most effective aid from the American
army to the French army.”

Hear War Experiences
The Fulton County Medical Association,
at its meeting Thursday night in the as
sembly hall of the Chamber of Commerce,
will be addressed by Lieutenant Colonel
Stewart R. Roberts, who was in France
with the Emory hospital unit, and also by
Dr. John Funke
The association also will discuss prelimi
nary plans for the convention of the Geor
gia Medical Association, whieh is to be
held in April Fred Houser, secretary of
the Atlanta Convention Bureau, also will
lay before the doctors the matter of the
advisability of inviting the American Medi
cal Association to meet here next year.
