Feb, 28.—For the Information of all
officers and men of the Navy and
Marine Corps, all reservists and all
persons in the service of the coast
guard, coast and geodetic survey and
lighthouse service who are entitled
to the benefits of the 3?0 bonus pro
vision in the revefiue act, the Wash-
Ington headquarters of the soldlers’
service bureau of the Hearst news
papers has secured the following of
ficial statement of regulations con
cgrning the manner of payment;
. “I=The beneficiaries of this act
are Officers and enlisted men of
| the regular navy, all reservists, male
and female, officers and men of the
}nmrlne- corps, and all persons in the
|service of the coast guard, coast and
|geodetic survey and lighthouse serv-
Jvim- who have performed active duty
with the navy during the p esent
| war. No persen who is entitled to
'l\'lix‘vd pay on return te inactive duty
‘nh:nl receive this gratuity, The act
of May 18, 1917, referred to, affects
| only certain persons discharged from
the army at the digscretion of the
President.
Officers Must Sign.
“2—From the date of approval of
this act by the President, officers
carrying the accounts of officers and
men who resign or are discharged or
released from active duty will pay
the same at the time the pay account
is closed, provided that men given
dishonorable, bad conduct or unde
sirable discharges will be given no
gratuity. An order will be signed by
the commanding officer Stating that
the man is entitled to receive the
gratuity and directing payment,
Credit will be made on the rolls as
a 4 sundry credit charging ‘pay of the
navy and paymog‘gt will be made :in
cash. A notation of the amount of
gratuity credited will be made on
both the service record and discharge
or orders to inactive duty.
“3—Officers and men who have
been relieved from active duty, dis
charged or disenrolled prior to the
approval of the act will present their
claims for gratuity, substantiated by
their discharges or orders to inac
tive duty, te the disbursing officer,
bureau of supplies and accounts,
Navy Department, Washington, D. C,,
for payment. Officers and enlisted
men of the coast guard will present
their claims * for gratuity to coast
guard headquarters, Washington, D.
. In case the original dhcha.rfo or
ders to inactive duty are lost it will
be necessary to . obtain a certified
copy from the bureau of navigation,
Navy Department, Washington, D.
€., and a ceritficate from the officer
by whom final settlement of pay
accounts was made that no credit of
this gratuity has been made by him.

“4—Upon receipt by the disbursing
officer of claims filed by men ne
longer in active service, the requests
will be compared with the enlistment
records on file in the bureau of nav
igation in order to ascertain the cor
rectness of the claims and the dis
bursing officer will certify that such
comparison has been made and that
according to the records, the gratu
ity is due and remains unpaid.
“s—~ln the event of duplication of
payment by reason of failure to note
payment of gratuity on enlistment
record and discharge or orders to in
active duty, the officer who fails to
make suck notation will be held re
sponsible,
“6—No part of this gratuity wiil
be withheld to reimburse the govern
ment for overpayment,”

eight minutes was granted by Bibb Su
perior Court juries yesterday, In all,
60 divorce decrees were granted, the larg
est number for any day in the history
of Bibb County,

lin, was given a final decree Just eleven
months after she was married. She ltved
with her husband, Herman Hamlin, only
two weeks, when she says she had to
leave him on account of eruel treatment.
