High School Cadets
.
Rounding Into Form
THOMASVILLE, May 24.—The cadets
of the Thomasville High School are do
ing a lot of drilling these days, and the
way that they go through with the set
ting-up exercises, the manual of arms,
close order formations and other ex
ercises reflects great credit upon them.
The boys are very much in earnest and
very ambitious to be well up in military
tactics.
They are a soldierly looking set and
the development shown by them since
they have been going through with mili
tary drilling is remarkable, sand proves
the advantage of the military feature
in the school. With the close of school
the first week in June, plans are be
ing made for an encampment during
the summer vacation.

\ View; Seeks Injunction
| MACON, May 24—Mrs. Samuel B.
'Hunter, a prominent Macon woman, does
inot want the view of the street from
her home obstructed, and she has
brought suit against Luther Williams, a
well-known bank president, to enjoin
him from building a house next door.
She claims at Mr. Williams agreed
not to build * house closer than thirty
feet to the -street, and that he is vio
lating the agreement and erecing the
sructure less than twelve feet from the
street. She says it will knock off the
iview and in addition impair the value
iof her property.

WINNIPEG, MAN., May 24 —Fail
ure of the committee which has been
in conferepce here to agree on « plan
for the settlement of Winnipeg's gen
eral strike has appreciably lcssened
hopes for an early adjustment of the
situation. The committee adjourned
early today with none of the funda
mental differences between empioyers
and the strikers adjusted. »
Unwillingness on the part of union
forces to accept responsibility for in
volving city firemen in the strike and
wide divergence of opinion regarding
collective bargaining are the main is- )
sues on which the members of the
committee are at variance.
With prospects of settiement of the
strike still remote, military authori
ties are watching the situation with
increased caution. Two companies of
mounted police have been added to
she military forces held in reserve to
maintain order. A cavalry force of
1,500 is now held in reserve here.
Ministers Meighan and Robertson,
of the Dominion Cabinet, are stiil
holding conferences with opposing
forces, but as yet have made Ilittle
progress toward ending the strike.
Citizens are demanding that the
Government take steps to.reopen the
postoffice and the Government tele
graph system, even to the extent of
declaring martial law. Failure of the
Cabinet Ministers to attend a mass
meeting and disclose their plans fordv
settlement of the controversy has re
sulted in bitter criticism.
Living conditions are still far from
normal, although there has been a
noticeable improvement. One daily
paper was printed yesterday, carrying
news dispatches gathered by wireless.
Other daily papets report they are
preparing to resume publication next
week.
