WASHINGTON, June 6-~The bomb
i
ocutrages of the anarchists are sheer
|insanity, of course, but this insanity
'ls the natural result and the logical
'answer to the insane outrages against
the free press and free speech by the
{ruling class Fverybody who knows
[anything at all knows that soclalism
ind anarchism are direct opposites in
heory, principle and practice.
I However, all true Democrats will
igree with them in the demand for a
{ free press and free speech. Just now
| the plutoerats believe that they can
fquell all new ideas by passing special
‘f.»mhl;mnn_ by employing spies and
by using all the force aVailable
The capitalists may thus hy tyran
nical legislation and foree retard
sgcelalism, but then they will surely
get anarchism They will Invite a
cataclysm such as the world never
hag seen bhefore—a cataclysm in which
their class will be simply wiped out
in the end |
This is a warning, not a threat, be
cause the Soclalists do not want to
have the rhun“e come tlat way, We
want progress by evolution. And we
want soclalism, not anarchism or com
munism. But force will not keep
down progress. Remember how, less
than a year ago, the Kaiser was one
of the most powerful men In the
world. less than three years ago the
Czar was the autocrat of 170,000,000
persons. Where are they today?
It is true ouf capitalist rulers may
form & league of nations. It will be
but an alliance of plutocrat Govern
ments against the communistic na
tions of Burope. Such a league will
furnish no relief against armaments,
high taxes and war. On the con
trary, there will be more armaments
than ever. And our country will lead
in that respect
And since ideas can not be excluded
by bayonets and by prisons, the com
munists eventually will win and the
present civilization may be lost en
tirely: the good In it will go down
with the bad, and a terrible retribu
tion will be meted out to the capital-
Ists as a class.

F. W. Thompson, Noted
Park Promoter, Dead
(By International News Service.)
NEW YORK, June 6.-—Frederick
W. Thompson, who started with a
capital of §8 and became one of the
best-known theatrical producers and
amuseéement park promoters in the
world, died at St. Vincent's Hospital
today, following an abdominal op
eration. 4
Besides founding Luna Park at
Coney Island, Thompson econducted
the big “toyland” at the San ¥ran
ciseo Exposition, managed the New
York Hippodrome and other enter
prises. His first wife was Mabel
Taliaferro, the actress,
Frederick W. Thompson was born
it Nashville, Tenn.,, and was the son
of a widely known architect. He en
gaged in the amusement business by
accident, for his father had built the
“Blue Grotto” at the Ténnessee Cen
tennial FExposition for an exhibitor
who failed to pay for the work, and
voung Thompson operated it to make
it pay the bills,
At the Buffalo Exposition young
Thompson built and operated “A
Trip to the Moon,” and here he met
“Skip” Dundy, who became a partner
in his enterprises. Thompson had
the vision and the new ideas, and
Dundy was an excellent business
manager. When they opened Luna
Park the expenses had eaten so far
into their capital and all the money
they could borrow that they had only
ten dollars on the opening day with
which to make change for the cus
tomers,
