Harold Ahearn was formerly a soldier sta
tioned at Souther Field, where he is now
employed in a civilian capacity. Following
their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Ahearn left
for a brief trip to North Georgia points,
after which they will be at home to their

An event of the week was the demon
stration for the canning club girls and

and Miss Marie Anderson. The social
side of the meeting was under the di
rection of the Community Service Club.

An enjoyable soctal event of Wednes

Glynn Academy immediately after the
graduation exercises in the school au
ditorium. The hall was decorated with
quantities of daisies, the class flower,
and ferns with the class motto, “Green,
but growing,” huns over the entrance.
Music was furnished by the High School

HE marriage of Miss Hortelle Hood
and Mr. Thomas Mlller Philpot of
Augusta took place at the home of
the bride's parents, Mr, and Mrs. J.' M
Hood, on Pierce avenue. The bride was
attended by Miss Lucille Griffeth and Mr.
Fred Davis acted as best man, Dr. J. W,
Lynch of the First Baptist church per
formed the ceremony, Assisting Mrs. Hood
and Mrs. D. F, Miller and Mrs. W. O.
Perry of Winder. The bride wore a trav
eling suit of champagne tricollette with
hat to match and carried a bouquet of
bride's roses showered with valley lilieg.
After an informal reception Mr. and Mrs.
Philpot left for a wedding trip to Atlantic
City, and returning will make their home
in Midville.

The reception given the high school class
of 1919 was a most elaborate affair. The
large grounds were hung with Japanese
lanterns and many guests attended.
The marriage of Miss Elizabeth Fleming
and Professor W. O. Payne of the Univer
sity of Georgia was solemnized at the
home of the bride’s sister, Mrs. J. A,
Davis. The bride wore a traveling suit
of blue tricollette with hat to match, and
carried a bouquet of bride's roses and
swansonia, Professor and Mrs., Payne lelt
immeoediately for a trip to the mountaina.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. Allen
Fleming and was a popular member of
the Athens younger set.
