One of the ltovelicst parties given in
honor of the Bohemians for Miss Evelyn
Griffith was that given on Friday aft
ernoon by Mrs. Frank Stubbs, who ‘n.ve'
the honoree a miscellaneous shower at|
her home. The whole lower floor was
heautifully decorated for the occasion with ‘
cut flowers and ferns. Each guest as she
nrrived wrote her name and a wish for
the bride in the bride's book, which was
presided over by Miss Julia Belle Dennis,
As a moti’ of entertaining, each of the
guests tried her luck fishing in the “sea
of matrimony,” each one drawing the
initials of their future husband, and one
drawing spinster. The bride was the last
to try her luck and drew up on her hook
and line a large white ship, laden with
pretty and dainty gifts. After this, a
#alad course, cake and lces frozen in the
shapes of wedding bells were served.
Misseg Leila Ralney and Julia Belle Den
nis served punch during the afternoon,
amsisting the hostess in serving and en
tartaining were Mesdames Foote Bronson,
Fannle Leverette, Roy Stubbs and Mrs,
Nw'wlnmlvr. About fifty guests were pres
ent.
Miss Carrie Beall Maddox entertained a
number of her young friends on Thurs
day afternoon at the home of Mrs. Sam
Dance. Progressive proms was the motif
of entertaining till late in the evening,
when dmwcrul refreshments were served.
Miss Kisle Dejarnette celebrated her
bhirthday on Thurasday afternoon by having
o number of her ypung friends to spend
the afternoon with her at her home in
the avenue, Various games were enjoyed
and the guests reluctantly bid their hos
tess good-day after a most delightful
afternoon of fun and amusement.
Miss Emily Spivey was hostess on Mon
day evening in honor of Miss Mary Jar
man of Covington. Proms were enjoyed
on the long avenue in front, the house
being lighted with lanterns, ITces and cake
were sorved during the evening.
A Japanese flandnn party was given by
the young people of the Methodist Church
on Monday afternoon, at the parsonago,
to the ladies of the church. All decor
ations were of Japanese idea, the lawn
in front of the parsonage being convert
ed Into a Japanese garden with lanterns
and paragols, and vases of flowers. A
Japanese program was carried out. The
hostees wore a Jap costume. During the
afternoon tea and sandwiches were served.
