| PARIS, Oct. 11.—From out of
the sradows of one of the blackest
deeds of the German army in
France has emerged a discovery
~ that will make students of his
‘ tory’s grim past the world over rub
their hands with joy and set them
greedily digging for every scrap
~and shred to piece together an
i otehr chapter of bygone days.
The archaeological mission
‘ charged with the study of the re
~ construction of the Rheims Cathe
dral reports that German shells
that ripped open the floor of that
twelfth century church have dis
closed another cathedral built by
the Franks and which contained
the tomb of King Clovis for 1,894
years.
It is expected that further ex
cavation will reévéal the whole foun
. dation of the historic cathedral
built by early Franklin architects
and disclose at least the general
outline of the rare architecture of
that time.
Other vestiges uncovered by
shells include a mosaic floor of the
purest Louis XV style, which, his
tory records, was built in by the
arcnitect Vioilet le Duc in order to
keep the present cathedral strictly
within the lines of the twelfth
century.
