Originality Wins— |
SOME of the grown ups did get
tog.ther on one occasion last
week and quite a timé they had,
tOO. I refer, of course, to the fa
mous fancy dress ball of the “Nine
o'Clocks. The old saying about
Solomon in all His glory comes in
quite: handy here when one reflects
upon the costumes worn at that
brilliant affair., Some, however,
were of the droll variety, instead of
the briliiant, and strange to say
these were the favorites in the
prize campaign. Mrs. Leßoy Childs,
for instance, won the man's prize,
her disguise as a “fat man,” belng
#0 perfect that no one suspected
her jdentity until the diselosure.
At any rate that's what the all
say. Eloise Robinson, in casting ‘
" about for original ideas, recalled the |
well known descriptive phrase, |
anent the lady who is over dressed
—having on “everything but the
kitchen stove,” 8o Eloise decided
~ to be the Kkitehen stove. ShHe
received a warm welcome, 1 never
quite ascertained wheth.r Mrs, Ben
Gatins, In her henna colored trou
serettes and Jeweled turban and
all, was a Christian slave or a
Bablonish queen. Anyway, she
was stunning in the suit and her
pearis, diamonds, rubles, emeralds
and other preclous stones like the
advertisement of a well kinown
Jewlery place on Fifth avenue—
- “defied detection,” Gatherine Gid
~ dings, as a sugar lump, was sweet
enough to eat and most of the
sugariimps hanging from the ends
of countless white ribbon etream
ers .ware eaten before the dance
was over. Recalling J.rry Farrer

lotte Meador was Carmen, and a

A Vision—
B EFORE passing entirely away
from the subject of fancy

memories of all the gay beauty and
gorgeous charm and droll fantasy
of the Nine o'Clock Maids, In
make-believe costumes, many of us
recall a vision In white with a
sweet madonna-like face and won
derful red hair, whom none could
fail to recognize as one of the most
popular debutantes of the season,
in the beautiful and impressive
presentation of ““T'he Vision,” which
‘was glven at the Aud torlum last
week under the auspices of the
Woman'’s Club.
Although the characters in this
entertalnment are supposed to be
rameless, I am encouraged to name
this one “Angel of a Debutante”
because—well, becanse—of -all -the
