NEW ORLEANS. Feb. 12.—Strong
Liverpool cables, prospects of early
ratification of the peace treaty, less‘
eapprehension with = regard to the
threatened railway strike and un- |
fayorable weather, resulted in the!
©otton market opening steady today
at a net gain of 13 to 31 points, De
mand was active and offerings com
paratively light. Before the end of
the first fifteen minutes trading
values showed a net gain of 26 to 32
points, with March reaching 35,94,1
May 33.41 and July 31.42.
-
The advance at Liverpool was due
chiefly to the statement of the Brit
ish chancellor of exchequer, making
it plain that Great Britain will not
buy any more in other countries,)
which in a way, confirms rumors of|
a few days ago of practically an im-!
port ambargo.
Liverpool at the opening showed a
net gain of-30 to 35 penny points,
equal to 60 to 106 American points.
Owing to the holiday in other mar
kpta business here was comparatively
hight.

THE ATLANTA GEORGIAN
STOCKS CRASH TO NEW LOWS;
BARGAIN HUNTERS INCREASE
.~ By BROADAN WALL.
NEW YORK, Feb. 12—O0n a turnoyer which amounted to nearly 1,500,-
000 shares prices of stocks broke sharply again Wednesday under heavy
offerings. The downward movement was in full swing when the sessioh
closed, leaving quotations around the lowest level for the day and at the
lowest figures for the year. Several stocks, particularly those selling be
tween S2O and $3 0a share, touched the lowest prices in their history. The
weakness was so pronounced at the en_d of the trading that brokers exX
pressed a belief that a lower range of quotations would probably be wit
nessed.
At no time during the session wasT
there a display of strength. Opening
prices were irr>gular with most is
=,eß showing declines from the pre
vious closing. Professional bear
tracers learning that there were few
buying orders under the market im
mediately started to offer shares all
around the room and succeeded in
causing substantial recessions.
Around noon the industrial issudes
daveloped resistance and the fire of
the bear operators was directed into
the railroad department, where high |
class issues like Southern Paciflc‘
and Union Pacific declined from 2
to 3 points to the lowest prices for
this year. Short covering caused a
slicht rebound from the low figures
of the forenoon, but in the last hour
the general market had a second
'spell of weakness in which the low
est levels were reached. General
Motors was at the head of the de
clining column and at one time
changed hends 13 points under the
high for the day.
| Brokers reported that mnotwith
‘standing the favorable news of thel
last two days, their customers re-’
fused to purchase stocks. Call,
money was again offered at 6 per’
cent; news from Washington was
that the United States government
would” probably ask the courts for
‘an injunction restraining the rall
road workers from striking and ex
pectaticns were that the treaty would
be ratified this month. All these fa
‘vorable influence, however, seemed
to be disregarded in the making of
’prices for securities. In view of the
favorable news the action of the
market was extremely disappointing
to persons who have been taking the
constructiveé side. Brokers report
that wealthy clients who usually
purchase stocks on big breaks are
now refusing to enter the market, al
though they are well supplied with
funds.
One theory being advanced for the
unwillingness of persons with sur
plus funds to enter the market is
that the disbursements made by the
large industrial companies last year
were disappointing in view of the
nuge earnings which the industrials
in general made during the twelve
months. While it is true that the
industrial companies have plowed
back into their properties many mil
lions of dollars out of earnings the
steady depreciation in quotations
would seem to demonstrate that no
attention is being paid to the rela
tion of prices of stocks to their in
trinsic values.
Although General Motors was sell
irg Wednesday at more than 150
ipoints under its high prices made
last year, it continues to be a favor
iite short sale among the rank and
file of speculators.
' Although call money was lending
at 6 per cent, banks reported less
of an inquiry from brokerage houses.
Owing to the severe decline in the
market, which has forced the liquida
tion of accounts by many small
‘speculators. some commission houses
are now: carrying less stock than
for many months. Quite a few have
4lso been reducing their loans. This
‘was rparticularly true Wednesday. A
'banker estimated that brokers’ loans
now approximate one billion dollars,
‘which is about $750,000,000 under
‘what they were about six months
ago.
’ ‘As prices decline the number of
bargain hunters coming to the fi-t
nancial district is increasing. One’
\€mmission house said that even;
omen are becoming interested. This |
firm reported the purchase of small
amounts of ‘zood industrials and rails
for cash. There has not been any
‘rush on the part of people to buy
stocks for cash, which would indicate
that' the type of investor who is
classed as a ‘bargain hunter” does
not believe prices had declined far
enough.
With the exception of Mexican
Petroleum and Middle States Oil the
oil shares failed to show any response
to the news from Washington that
the Senate had agreed on the con
{Slr]ence report of the oil land leasingl

R R
' You know that pine is used in
pearly all preseriptions and remedies
for coughs. The reason is that pine
contains several geculiar elements that
have a remarkable effect in soothing
and healing the membranes of the
throat and chest.
Pine cough syrups are combinations
of pine and syrup. The “syrup” part
is usually plain sugar syrup.
To make the best pine cou;zh remedy
that money can buy, put 2%, ounces
of Pimex in adpmt bottle, and fill up
with home-made sugar syrup. Or you
can use clarified molasses, honey, or
corn syrup, instead of sugar syrup.
Either way, you make a full pint-—more
than you can buy ready-made for three
times the money. It is qure, good
and very pleasant—children like it.
You can feel this take hold of a
eough ¢r cold in a way that means
business. The cough may be dry,
hoarse and tight, or may be persist
ently loose from the formation of
phlegm. The cause is the same—in
flamed membranes—and -this Pinex and
Syrup combination will stop it—
usually in 24 hours or less. Splendid,;
toe, for bronchial asthma, hoarseness,
or any ordinary throat ailment.
Pinex is a highly concentrated com
?ound of genuine Norway pine ex
ract, and is famous the world over
for its prompt effect upon coughs.
Beware of substitutes. Ask vyour
druggist for “214, ounces of Pinex”
with direetions, and don’t accept any
thing else. Gnaranteed to give abso

Take a Glass of Salts If Your
Back Hurts or Bladder
|
Troubles You.
No man or woman who eats meat
regularly can make a mistake by
flushing the kidneys occasionally,
scys a well known authority. Meat
forms uric acid, which excites the
kidneys, they become overworked
from the strain, get sluggish and fail
to filter the waste and poisons from
the blood, then we pet sick. Nearly
all rehumatism, headaches, dizziness,
sheplessness and urinary disorders
come from sluggish kidneys.
The moment you feel a dull ache in
the kidneys or your back hurts or if
the urine is cloudy, offensive, full
of sediment, irregular of passage or
attended by a sensation of scalding,
stop eating meat and get about four
ounces of Jad Salts from any phar
macy; take a tablespoonful in agglass
of water before breakfast and in a
few days your kidneys will act fine.
This famous salts is made from the
acid of grapes and emon juice, com
bined with lithia, and has been used
for generations to flush and stimu
late the kidneys, also to neutralize
the acids in urine so it no longer
causes irritation, thus ending bladder
weakness,
Jad Salts is inexpensive and can
not injure; makes a delightful effer
vescent lithia-water drink, which
every one should take now and then
to keep the kidneys clean and active
and the blood pure, thereby avoiding
serious kidney eomplications.—Adv.

Many Cases Develop Into
s .
Deadly Pneumonia. Easier to
Prevent Than Cure. How
5 /
to Avoid.
The constant dally increase of Spanish
Influenza reported by physicians shows
clearly that many people are failing to
take the simple ordinary precautions nee
éssary to avoid infection. For, while in
fluenza, after its development, is some
times difficult"to cure, it is an easily pre
ventable disease,
The best plan is to begin treatment be
fore the first symptom starts. For no
other disease will develop so quickly or
spread so rapidly You may feel fine to
day—be sick tomorrow and lose a weéek
or more of work, You will indeed be for
tunate it pneumonia does not develop.
The air today is full of Influenza germgs.
Every breath you take is likely to draw
them into your nose and throat. You .can
prevent the disease by killing the germs
before they spread throughout your bedy,
There is probably no safer or sufer way
to do this than to go to the nearest drug
store amd get one of the famous Hyomel
Inhaling Outfits consisting of a bottle of
the pure Oil of Hyomei and a little vest
pocket, hard rubber inhaling device, into
which a few drops of the Oil of Hyomei
are poured,
Just breathe this Oil of Hyomei deep
into your nose, throat and lungs and every
particle of air that enters your breathing
organs will be charged with an antiseptic
germ-killing balsam that will destroy the
germs that have found lodgment there.
You can’'t do this too often. No ordinary
night and morning gargling or threoat
spraying will be sufficient so long as dur
ing the day you come in constant contact
with * infection The Hyomei inhaler: is
small and can be conveniently carried in &
handbag or vest pocket. Every half hox?r
or so throughout the day take it out #nd
draw a few hreaths of its pure healing alr
into your nose and throat. By doing this
you can prevent infection and check ‘the
further spread of the disease even though
you are coming in direct contact with" it.
This is an inexpensive treatment, as the
Inhaler will last a lifetime and further
supplies of the Oil of Hyomei can be bad
at any drug store for a few cents. "
NOTE: Oil of Hyomei, so strongly ret
ommended above for the prevention® of
Spanish Influenza, is not a new discovery,
but is the application of an old and time
tried treatment to a new disease, Hyom:l
has been a standard in the treatment®of

and is sold by druggists everywhere. Hun
dreds of people in Atlanta and vicinity
keep a Hyomei Outfit with inhaler on the
