CLEVELAND, Feb. 26,—Congress
was scored for its delay of action on
the Smith-Towner blll, which would
add a secretary of education to the
President’'s cabinet and appropriate
$100,000,000 annually for schools, by
apeakers before the National Educa
tion Association convention here
today.
The bill was termed “the one pos
«ible way of saving the school system
from crumbling.” Methods to hring
pressure to bear upon Congress for
early consideration of the measurs
were discussed,
At the same time plans for combat
ting bolshevism through the use of
school buildings as community cen
ters and the teaching of An@ericani
zation in the schools was being
thrashed out before another meeting
'(rt the convention.

at Parrie Island, 8. C., sent Chief
Beavers an urgent request Thursday
to locate his mother, Mrs, W, B, Winn,
