'Conesauga Is expecting much from her young bucks going the round of stumps. The next sachem. Brother Daniel, la a chief of marked execu tive ability, and we expect much j>f him. W. E. Spates, the next senior sagamore, is very popular In the tribe, and no better Red Man could have been found to start on the round of stumps. S. W. ] SPLENDID SESSION IS HELD IN ALBANY BY THE B. P. O. E. The state convention of Elks this week In Albany was a pronounced suc cess In every respect. The members of the order throughout the state are greatly pleased with the session, and pronounce It one of the most enjoyable In the history of the slate organisa tion. • The state body was In session two days, and during this time much business of Interest to Georgia Elks was given attention. Representatives were present from all subordinate lodges of the order In the state, nnd. In addition, many visitors thronged - the city. The occasion was marked by numer ous social features, all of which were greatly enjoyed. The Albany Elko were active In their efforts to give the Visitors a good time, nnd ln this they succeeded admirably. In majiy ways, they rendered the session enjoyable. On tho opening, day of the session, the chief feature,was a Dig street pa rade, which proved one of (tie best ever seen In Albany. Hundreds of Elks were In line, and made a splendid Impression. The parade was followed by an open session, during which ad dresses of welcome were delivered. * Rome was chosen as the place for the next annual meeting. Y, June 2.—After being In a semi-conscious state for days, the Hon. Daniel N. Lockwood, one of Buffalo's best known and most fluentlal cltlsens, died at his horns here yesterday. About two weeks ago, Mr. Lockwood had his left leg amputated above the knee. It was the third operation on the member. Borne time ago, blood poisoning set In on the left foot, and, after a consultation of physicians and surgeons. It was deemed advisable to amputate the foot. • He was s member of congress from 1877 to liM, and was a delegate to the Democratic National conventions of 1180 and 1884. The Knights of Maccabees of Atlantu have started a movement by which they hope to get all lodges of the va- ; rloua secret orders especially Inter ested !n"the proposed big exposition of . 1910. I The first step In this direction was taken by Greater Atlanta Tent No. 10, when It subscribed the sum of $26 to the exposition fund. The members of this tent are enthu siastic over the movement for the great show and are anxious that other lodges subscribe to the fund. The Maccabees believe the exposition will prove a big benefit to the secret orders generally and feel that tho orders should take an Interest in making 1< a success.
