MEMPHIS PEOPLE EXPECT
STARTLING DISCLOSURES
By Private Leased Wire.
Memphis, Teun., June B.—A meeting of
the Southern League Imsetmll managers for
next Saturday has t»een called by Presi
dent Karanougb, at which aerernl elubs
may to called on to show why forfeiture
of their franchises should not take place.
Expert auditors, representing the league,
hove been working for several days on the
liooka of the cluba suspected of violating
the salary limit, and startling disclosures
are reported ns a result of the probing
process. Prestdent Knvanaugh says that
complete forfeiture of the franchise will be
the punishment of any dub found guilty.
The. stove dispatch arrived Wednesday
over the leased wire and represents the
feeling of Memphis over the coming meet
ing of the Southern League, of which
meeting no official notice has yet reached
Manager Hmlth. ,
From Memphis sources It Is learned that
President Knvanaugh la worried for feAr of
a one sided race, and he neeros rather In
clined to think that Atlantis as well as
some other cluba, are exceeding the salary
limit
W. E. Wo rinser, the eypert accountant,
spent yesterday on Atlanta's books. When
he bad finished he stated to Billy Hmlth
that they'were O. K. Just what he will
report to the league about them time'win
tell.
By the time of the coming league meet
Ing all of the books of the league will
have undergone examination nnd Wqrmaer
will be in a position to report to President
Kavsnsugh* ns to whether or not he has
found suy crldenccs that any club has ex
ceeded the salary limit.
In an Interview with the Memphis Com
merclsl-Appeal recently, Judge Knvanaugh
said: “I do not know that any manager has
violated faith or In any manner broken the
agreement cutcred Into at Inst year's meet
Ing of the league, but I do know that If
any one Is found guilty by the directors the
franchise will to forfeited to the league
and the. league will have the right, by the
constitution, to dispose of It as the Ulrec*
tors should see fit."
