Toledo, June x. -After three hours last night, the Jury that had under consideration the ice trust cases re turned a verdict of guilty. The case won brought by the state against Jo seph A. Miller, president of the Toledo Ice and Coal Company, he being one of a half dozen of the Indicted men, the first to come to trial. Sentence has not been passed. New Orleans, La., Juno 8.—The state capttol building of Louisiana at Baton Rouge, took fire at 1 o'clock last night. The fir* originated In a blind attic over the senate chamber. It Is thought, from defective electrto wiring. The senate records are uninjured. Th* fire was stopped at the center of the building and tho west half escaped with email damage from smoke and water. The old capttol was destroyed by federal troops In 1162. TJte legislature convened in Baton Rouge In 1880 approproprloted funds for the reconstruction, of the capitol building. A legislature occupied the present building for the first time In 1882. It cost $230,000, Including $35,000 contributed by the cltlxens of Baton Rouge Lust night's fire will entail a loss of some $50,000 or more. The stale carried no insurance, but had an Insurance fund of Its own, of $7,500. The senate met today at noon In the Elks theater. The house met In Its own chambers as usual. John Yonkers, a young man of neat appearance, a machinist ut the De- Leach Manufacturing Company, was arrested Friday morning by Caff Olfi- cers Luck and Chandler as the result of a lively row with his former land- lady, Mrs. Fannie Jones, of 27 \Vvli« street. DISASTROUS FIRE VISITS EDGEFIELD Special to The Georgian. Augusta, Ga., June 8.—Edgefield, S. C- vvns visited by a very disastrous lire last night, which resulted In about $18,000 loss. The Augusta fire depart ment was naked to aid, but about the ttme the chemical engine was to leave It was learned that the fire was under control. The fire originated In the cellar ol the store occupied hy Cobb & Seal as a shoe store, totally destroying the building nnd contents. The store of IV. It Adams was total ly destroyed. A portion of tho stock of Mr. Adams was removed from the building before the building caught, the adjoining before the sun sets.” Mrs. Nuckols was warned, went to her tent, and pre pared herself for an attack from Sirs. Black. The dead woman was taken to Con way, her home, and burled In the fam ily burying grounds. Her three little children. In charge of their old grand mother- attended the funeral and were objects of much sympathy. Late last night Mr. Nuckols arrived In Richmond, bringing with him the three little children, which were ad mitted Into the Jail and to their moth er’s cell. The meeting was most pa thetic. Mr*. Nuckols Is as bright and cheer ful aa can be and la confident of be ing acquitted. She said: "Just wait till all the facts are known." BELL AND HATCH BELIEVED ALIVE AND IN COMER, GA. Information secured by Detectives Simpson and CampbeU Friday leads them to believe that Prather Bell, the Western Union lineman, reported dead, le alive, and now located at Comer, Madison county, Georgia, working for the Southern Bell Telephone Company. W. R. Hatch, the man who wired Bell's parent* nt Greensboro. N. C., that the young man was dead, left Atlanta Monday for Comer. Tennllle and Toccoa, $1,400 to $1,500. Thomason, $1,600 to $1,600. Tlfton, $2,000 to $2,200. Waycross, $2,400 to $2,500. West Point, $1,600 to $1,700. Wrlghtsvllle, $1,100 to $1,400.
