could. In all probability, be attributed

New York, June 13.—COTTON—A
lower range for cotton In Liverpool
combined with continued small spot
aales here ha* rauaed a reaction In our
markets. New Orleans, Instead .,f tak
ing the lead, declined ahqrply after the
opening, prices breaking 10 points for
July, nnd 4 to u for the new crop posi
tions. Reports of rain in portions of
Texas, where moat needed, also caus
ed weakness. The confusing part of
this market Is the fact that the July
ptton Is selling higher than spots In
_ ew Orleans, and It is Impossible to
forecast the price movement with any
degree of certainty. We believe that
the selling of the October option has
been overdone and shorts in this op
tion may bo In a very uncomfortable
position beforo the movement begins.
On weak spots would buy.
STOCKS—Trading on a limited scale
in the stock market tills morning, and
Irregularity In price movements. The
Hal showed considerable weakness with
the exception of St. Paul whltfhr contln
ued to advance, selling at 182, the hety
high record on this movement. Weak
ness In Brooklyn Rapid Transit, and
tho Steel Issues, which were Inclined to
drag the balanco of the market with
them. After the noon hour, the mar
ital became very dull. The advance In
8t. Paul Is on the effort of the Inside
parly to make the rights look na at
tractive as posaJble. The reports of the
subsidiary companies of Amalgamated
Copper make a fine showing, nnd on
any renewal of activity tjils stock will
sell much higher.
