debt of the road Is at present, accord

union and "Old Home Week" festival.
From the crowds that throng the
streets and other public places It
would appear that a good proportion
of tho 600,000 Kentuckians who have
emigrated to other states had aceeptsd
the Invitation of . the Louisville Com
mercial Club “to come home and see
the folks." Kansas City, St. Louis.
Indianapolis, Cincinnati and other
cities sent heavily loaded special trains
with bands and banners Hying. The
city Is splendidly adorned for the occa
sion. The most extraordinary enthusi
asm prevails and the musicians are
vying with each other In the produc
tion of "My Old Kentucky Home.”
The festivities are to continue
through the remainder of the week.
Today Is given over to the reception of
the visitors, the formal welcome being
made by Henry Wattereon and the re
sponse by David R. Francis, a former
governor of Missouri and a native of
Kentucky. The exercises take place In
the new armory, which Is handsomely
decorated both inside nnd nut.
Tomorrow will be “Foster Day," In
memory of Stephen Collins Foster, the
author of the Immortal song, “My Old
Kentucky Home." The events of the
day will Include brass band and vocal
concerts, It being planned to mast sev
eral bands to render "My Old Ken
tucky Home," anti have a chorus of
several thousand children honor Fos
ter's memory. Another event of the
day will be the unveiling ot’a etatue of
Foster, which later la to be placed In
the new state capital at Frankfort.
Friday, which has been designated
as "Daniel Boone Day,” will give both
hoat and guest the opportunity of pay
ing tribute to the Kentucky pioneer,
reviving the state's earliest history, the
trials snd privations of Its men and
women a hundred years ago, and the
fights led by General George Rogers
Clark. In'Cherokee park a statue of
Daniel Boone will be unveiled with In
teresting ceremonies.
Saturday has been set ' aside aa
“Greatsr Kentucky Day," with barbe
cues and camp-fires, a day when
speakers can tell how Kentuckians
have assisted In making the llelds of
other states more prolific, the bench
and bar of other states more learned,
their press more profound; how Ken
tuckians have helped disclose the hid
den mineral treasures of other states,
and how thay have contributed to ad
vancement under all conditions.
Sunday will he given over to the
spirit Inspired by the song "Until We
Meet Again." All the pulpits of the
Louisville churches will be filled by
ministers of the gospel who are former
Kentuckians.

feller Is looking for a modern St. Pat
rick. He has declared war on the
snakes that Infest his large estate at
Pocantlco hills and for every one killed
and brought to his superintendent he
pays 36 cents. The following notice
was sent out some time ago;
I will pay 36 cents for all snakes
killed on my estate. I desire to rid
iny land of these reptiles and any one
may enter the war of extermination.

The war has begun and the regiment
of extermination consists of every
smalt boy In the neighborhood nnd
many who come from miles around to
make the much-prised quarters. Mr.
Rockefeller Is deathly afraid of snakes.
He will never walk In the Buttermilk

perheads and black snakes. If he has
occasion to go there lie always travels
In a carriage.
Sir. Rockefeller also offers 32 for
every dog killed bn his estate. Some
valuable dogs were killed last winter
and he had some trouble with his

corned, not alone by the small boys,
