engine on the new line of the Louis
ville and Nashville Railroad, In polk
county, played havoc Sunday morning
with a pleasure party riding on a hand-
car from Patty, Tenn., to a nearby
town.
The handcar, loaded with' men, wo-

bridge, when the engine ewept around
a curve and crashed Into the handcar.
Four peraone were Instantly killed,
they being 8. M. Blankenship, Levy
Womack, Mattie Womack and E. H.
Brinkley.

nouncement of a few days ago that the
armored cruiser squadron of the At
lantic fleet la to be sent to the Philip
pines haa been confirmed by the navy
department. The West Virginia, Colo
rado, Maryland and Pennsylvania are
going to the Far East to relieve the
battleships Ohio and Wisconsin, now
attached to the battleehlp squadron of
the Asiatic fleet.

delivered an eloquent aermon suitable
to the occasion.

victim of an explosion at the Reiser

loss of his left leg, has brought suit
against that concern for damages In
the sum ot 828.740. He wants 813.440
for loss of hit earning rapacity during
the balance ot his life, 810,040 for the
mental and bodily sufferings and 8700
for lose ot time and for doctor bills.

Morrison, of Leesburg, Va., a noted
Presbyterian missionary, stationed at
Leubo, Congo Free State, and Miss
Bertha Stebblns. of Gueydan, were
married here yesterday morning. The
couple left Immediately for a tour of
the United States and of European
countries, after which they will sail for
America to take up missionary work.
