BLACK AND TANS WILL HOLD A
SEPARATE CONVENTION
AT FORTH WORTH.
Special to The Georgian.
Dallas, Texas. June 28.—A warm I
fight, which ultimately means the en
tire disruption of the Republican party
In Texas, is now In progress in this
state. Cedi A. Lyon, chairman of the
Republican state executive committee,
has been carrying matters with a high
hand the four years of his Incum
bency, completely ignoring the negro
members of the party. While, of course,
the "Lily White” party has suited the
white Republicans, especially those
who are now eating at the Federal pie
counter, there nro many prominent
white members of the party who are
n<»t satisfied with tho way that the af
fairs have been conducted and open
revolt has already resulted.
Because of the way the negroes have
been treated, the vote of the party
has greatly fallen off. In 1900 E. H. R.
Green, son of Mrs. Hetty Green, of
New York, was chairman of the Re
publican state committee, the vote for
president was more than 100,000. In
1904 Jess than 80,000 votes were polled
In this atate by the G. O. P., nnd this
is one of the reasons why those who
are members of the party from princi
ple are fighting the present Incumbent.
At a recent meeting of the executive
committee it was decided to hold the
state convention, which meets in Au
gust, at El Paso, which Is several hun
dred miles from the populous section of
the state, and a section where negro
Republicans are 'ray scarce. When

of preventing Chairman Lyon from
Issuing the call for the -El Paso con
vention. The hearing was held In
Grayson county, before District J^lge
Jones, and he refused to grant the In-
junptlon. The matter was appealed to
the court of civil appeals and this tri
bunal on last Saturday upheld the de
cision of the lower court.
McDonald, undaunted, has announced
that he will carry the matter to the
state supreme court.
A few days after the Dallas meet

Much Novel Equipment
