Monday evening the friends of Mlu
Elisabeth Raw-son gave her a very de
llghtful surprise parly at her home on
Washington street. Mlaa Rawaon’s
mother had been told the secret, and
waa prepared to receive the girls and
boys who called. During the evening
Icea were served and much merriment
waa caused by the cutting of the cake,
from which Mlae Julia Rosser drew
the ring. The thimble waa cut by

Mrs. W. T. Ratliff, which occurred
few days ago at Raymond, Mlaa., will
be read with much Interest by their

D. Gray, of Atlanta, in various parts
of the South:

celebrated their golden wedding anni
versary Monday at their beautiful su
burban home at Raymond with a re
ception to their friends, who came not
only from every section of the county,
but from many points In (his and oth

"Fifty-two guests, relatives and In
timate friends, puriook of an elegant
dinner, aerved under n handsome water
oak which stands In the spacious yard.
This tree waa planted by Mra. Ratliff
soon after moving to the place, thirty-
two yeara ago. All the afternoon the
friends, from everywhere were enter

three yeara. To thla speech Captain
Ratllcff responded In an appropriate
vein in his usual happy way. Follow
ing thla was an oration by Dr. B. D.
Gray, a Baptist divine of wide reputa
tion In the South, living In Atlanta,
Oa., he being a aon-ln-law of Captain
and Mrs. Ralllff. Dr. Gray extolled
their character In terms that touched
