der the same roof for more than five
vears, with one of the men in Ignorance

has been brought to light In the court
proceedings here in which Mrs. Orace
Peterson was divorced from Walter
Peterson.
Peterson alleged that when he was
married to Mrs. Peterson at Mt. Gil
ead, Ohio, July 26, 1300, she was the
wife of F. W. Welland, who she In
troduced to Peterson as her brother.
Peterson agreed to let her secure a
divorce If he would be released from
alimony.

The screams of the little girl as she
dropped the dog from her arms, at
tracted several people, who took her
to her home, where a "mad stone" was
applied to the ugly wound made by the
dog. The result of this teat shoved
that the dog was not suffering from
hydrophobia. - The child was d'olng as
• well as could be expected Friday morn
ing.
Call Officer Cooper shot the dog Fri
day afternoon, fearing that other chil
dren might be bitten.

Macon, Ga., July 13.—Dr. Little, of
Cincinnati, wen the championship of
Georgia la tingles today by defeating
Nat Thornton, of Atlanta. The scores
were 6-2, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.
A very large crowd saw the match
and Thornton came In for much ap
plause. He did n t seem to be In his
last year’s form and Ilfs opponent never
let up except In the third set, when
Thornton came near winning with a
clean sweep. This afternoon Little and
Hunt meet Thornton and Williams In
the championship match in doublea.

MAY NOW PROTEST

Washington, July 13.—Secretary of
the Navy Bonaparte today awarded
one-half of the armor plate contract
for the battleships South Carolina and
Michigan to the Midvale Steel Com
pany of Philadelphia. The secretary
awarded one-fourth of the contract to
each of the ao-called trust concerns,
namely, the Carnegie Steel and Beth
lehem Steel Companies, at the bid of
the Midvale Company, of $346 a ton
for clasa "A” armor. , .
Mr. Bonaparte announced that later
he would Issue a statement embodying
his reasons for not giving the entire
contract to the Midvale Company,
which was the lowest bidder. The Mid-
vale Company will probably protest.

of charges of fraudulent rebates from,
the Pennsylvania railroad to the Stand
ard Oil Company tfas resumed. Jef
ferson Justice, who was the auditor
of freight trafllc receipts of the Penn
sylvania when the alleged crimes were
committed, continued hie testimony. It
Is understood Justice s testimony Is to
the effect that rates granted to the
Standard Oil were according to con
tract entered Into between the railroad
and the oil company a dosen years or
more ago, before the passage of the
Interstate commerce law.

Knight, who k'Bed J. -M. Stewart, at
Bladen, near Brunswick, last month,
was today bound over by Justice Falin
to the December'term of the superior
court on the charges of volun
tary manslaughter. Bond was fixed at
11,600 which Knight promptly furn

of a negro wae found hanging to a
tree In the northeastern part of Ctal-
borne parleh yeeterday, having been
lynched by a mob who took him from
the offleere. The lynching occurred a
few mile* south of Junction City, Aitn
where the negro attempted a criminal
assault on the sister of Ned Thompson,
a prominent farmer.
