Democratic “boss" of Jersey City, has
received a letter from William J. Bry-
nn, written In London, July 7. In hie
letter Bryan tells Hudson's Democratic
leader that he will be pleased to accept
Davis' Invitation to speak In Jersey
City on his return from Europe on or
about August 81.
Mr. Brynn is expected to reach New
York on August 29.
The big reception In the Madison
Square Garden Is scheduled for Au
gust 80. -

people, and causing a stampede.

noon a shooting occurred across the
river, which resulted In the death of a
negro named Dykes, who has been em
ployed by the Artesian Drilling Works
l'or some time. Dykes was ahot by Will
Baker because Dykes had come to his
home to see Baker's wife. Baker or
dered Dykes away, but be aeemej) to

Nashville, Ga, July If.—Nashville
voted Monday to Issue bonds for the
amount of 110.000, $35,000 for electric
tights and water and 85,000 for public
schools, the vote being 78 to 1L
"The winter tourist travel next year
will be the biggest ever known 'In the
South, and Atlanta will be the destina
tion of a much larger share of these
travelers than ever J before,” declared
Houstoun R. Harper, manager of the
publicity bureau of Harvey & Woods,
lessees of the Piedmont hotel of this
city, who arrived In the city Tuesday
night, after spending three months In
the East In the Interest of the summer
travel to the several reeorts controlled
by the Arm he represents. Mr. Harper
will devote his time during the next
few weeks tn preparation for the re
ception of several thousand delegates
who are expected to be In Atlanta In
the fall to attend the several conven
tions which are to be held here.

all parts of the South will break all
records next year unless all Indications
fall,” continued- Mr. Harper. 'The hun
dreds of New York and Boston people
who have been wintering In California
and Pacific coast reeorts will not go
there next winter on account of ths
earthquake scare. . 1 personally know
of one colony of twenty families In
.Brooklyn. N. Y- who, for years, have
gone to California, who this winter will
come to Georgia and Florida to escape
the rigors of the Northern winter. And
ths same Is true alt through the North.”
In speaking of the conventions to be
held In Atlanta In the fall. Mr. Harper
stated that several were of the greatest
Importance and would attract thous
andn of people from all walks of life to
Atlanta, which, he aatd, would un
doubtedly become In a few years tbs

hundreds ot delegates attend thla con
vention, nnd tho hotels of Atlanta will
be taxed to their utmost to show the
visitors the true hospitality for which
this section of the country Is noted.
To assist In the coring for the con
ventlon crowds and heavy business
which the hotel proprietors have rea
son to expect In the fall and winter and
to Insure the comfort of Its gussts, the
Piedmont hotel Is undergoing ths most
thorough renovating In Its history. All
the wood work Is being repainted
carpets taken up, renovated and relald.
