Thomasvllle, Ga., July SI—One of the largest timber deals of recent years In Georgia has been perfected here. By it the J. I.. Phlllllps Lumber Company, of ThoniH.vllle, has acquired from Ve- reen Sk Smith, of Moultrie, Ga., and William Godfrey & Company, of Che raw,' S. C„ timber lands aggregating about 40,000 acres, lying around Talla hassee, v la. It Is estimated that the timber will cut 150,000,000 feet of lum ber. The largest portion of the timber Is virgin pound timber and the deal carries turpentine, lumber and land. Only a small part of the timber con veyed has been turpentined. The consideration Involved la about 00,000. The Phillips Company will Im mediately begin the erection of saw mills for the manufacture of this tim ber with a capacity of some 25,000,000 feet per year. The J. L. Phillips Company was or ganlzed In Thomasvllle some two yeare ago with J. L. Phillips, president; J. S. Gordon, vice president, and Charles Phlllllps, Jr„ secretary and treasurer.
