tors placed a valuation on his property
of 448,000,000. Leppelman Is one of
the eleven heirs. The dead man waa
an uncle of Justice Ingraham and a
great uncle of Leppelman.

largest timber deals of recent years In
Georgia has been perfected here. By
It the J. L. Phlllllps Lumber Company,
of Thomaavllle has acquired from Ve-
reen St Smith, of Moultrie, Ga., and
William Godfrey A Company, of Che*
raw,- S. C., timber lands aggregating
about 40,000 acres, lying around Talla
hassee, Fla. It la eatlmated that the
timber will cut 100,000,000 feet of lum
ber. The largest portion of the timber
Is virgin round timber and the deal
carries turpentine, lumber and land.
Only a small part of th* timber con
veyed ha* been turpentined.
The consideration Involved Is about

feet per year.

Charters for new ralllroads In Geor
gia are becoming almost as common os
charters for state banks.
Friday morning the secretary
state granted a charter to the Augusta
and Northwestern Railway, which the
Incorporators propose to build between
Augusta and Athena, a distance of to
miles.
The line will run a northwesterly
direction through Richmond, Columbia,
McDuffie, Wilkes, Oglethorpe and
Clarke counties, with the principal of
fice In Augusta.
The capital stock Is named at 1100,
000, and the Incorporators, E. F. Ver-
dery, P. D. Lnngdon, W. M. Butt, H. H.
Alexander, Charles T. Fargo, Bryan
Lawrence, W. W. Ramsey, W. El An

Quincy Taylor, of 10 Corput street,
who Is accused by his 10-ycar-old son,
Albert Taylor, of forcing Him to drink,
under penalty of a thrashing, until- he
became beastly Intoxicated, was arrest
ed Friday night by Policemen Arro-
wood and Wylie, and will be arraigned
Saturday afternoon before Recorder
Broylee. Taylor Is held prisoner In the
police station In default of a cosh bond
of 4200.
Taylor, when seen Saturday morn
ing, admitted giving hts child two
glasses of beer, but said he thought
any father had a perfect right to give
his own child whisky and beer It he so
desired. He denied he threatened the
boy. The physicians at ths Grady hos
pital, however, declare the child, when

day night, was In a terribly drunken
condition and almost dead.
