New York, July 18.—Tho forward
movement on the etock exchange con
tlnued this morning with undlmlnUhed
Intensity In face of a rather disap
pointing bank return. Reading, Dela

Ohio among the railroad shares and
Smelters, Copper and Lead among tht
industrials were the leaders of ths ad
vance. But the wholo Hat took part,
with acsrcely any exceptions In ths
rise. Thera was a momentary shading
after the bank statement appeared, bu:
buying ordern poured In again (thickly
and the best prices, as a rule, wore
reached at the close.
It was plainly enough another In'
stance where the average system nn-
derstated Vie true position of, the
banka. In the face of yesterday's pre
dictions of a 67,000,000 cash Increase
the banka showed a gain of only !>,'
600,000, and as loans expanded 616,700,
000 on the ' week, the surplus reserve
fell off 6500,000.
Doubtless next week's figures will
