FAKE LORD GIVEN A LEASE ON LIFE By Private Leased Wire. Washington, July 28.—The supreme court of the United States yesterday received notice that the chief Justice of the supreme court of Missouri had hr sued an order extending for sixty days from July 30 the 'ime for the filing pf the transcript of the record In the case of “Lord” F. Seymour Barrington, un der sentence of death In that state for murder. The fictitious English lord has led a variegated career In his swindling op erations In this country and England. He has swindled by shrew,d confidence games and has wooed heiresses, with all the ardor of a youthful lover. Bar- rlngton met James P. McCann,. a wealthy St. Louis horseman. McCann took pity upon the exposed and penni less wretch and gave him a home at hla house. According to the testi mony upon which he was convicted, Barrington lured his host into the country, murdered him, robbed the body and threw It Into a stream. AMERICAN CONSUL ANGERS GERMANY Special Cable—Copyright. Berlin, July 26.—It is probable that the United States government will be asked to recall the American consul at Kohle because of his report of food adulterations In that section. The newspapers are very bitter In denun ciation of hla report, which, they de clare, Is without foundation In fact. THREE REBATERS WERE INDICTED BY FEDERAL JURY American Sugar Refining Company Thought To Be in List. Dy Private Leased Wire. New York, July 21.—'The Federal grand Jury appeared before Judge Hough, In the United Statee district court.,yesterday and handed up Indict ments for violations of the anti-rebate laws against three corporations, the names of which United States District Attorney Stlmeon refused to give out for the public Information, on the ground that It would tend to defeat the ends of Justice. He admitted that no Individuals were named In the Indictments. It Is almost certain that one of the corporations named In the Indictments Is the American Sugar Refining Com pany, aa It la known that for at least two weeks past that company's activ ity In the rebate business has occupied all of the Federal grand Jury’s atten tlon. MAY DEMAND CHANGE OF VENUE FOR THAW His Attorneys Are Expected to Take This Action. ARRESTS CERTAIN IN HARTJE CASE EARLY NEXT WEEK By Private Leased Wire. Pittsburg, July 26.—Matters have reached such a stage in the Hartje case that the arrest of two conapcluoua personages, It Is said, will be po longer delayed. In all probability next week will see them arrested on charges of forgery and conspiracy. The admission by .Susie Wagner yea. terday that she had received three let ters from Mrs. Hartje, It le claimed, sustain! the contention of Mrs. Hartje that she had not written the celebrated Susie” letter, exhibit No. 6, but that the second letter she had written sim ply contained the statement that she had broken up house keeping and was living with her mother and hoped Susie would be able to secure a position here. This letter, Mrs. Hartje claimed, was a short one, whereas the famous No. 6" exhibit Is lengthy. The de fense asserts that the second letter was used as a copy, and additions mode to It. The assistant district attorney admits that he has a deposition made by a negro who states, In substance, that Hooe, the negro coachman, aaked him to go along with him In a story to tho efTect that he had assn Mrs. Hartje and Hooe together, the latter saying there would be good money In It. “BURGLARS IT FLAT” BUT NOTHING DOING LETTERS OF WHITE HELD BY GAR VAN Wife, Brother-in-Law and Detective Talk with Slayer of White in Tombs. By Private 'Leased Wire. New York, July 66.—Counsel for Harry Kendall Thaw, It was said to day, are likely to nek for a change of venue before tho date set for hla trial October II, for the murder ot Stan ford White. It will be argued that 'the attention of the community has been aroused such an extent that a fair and Impar tlal trial In this county Is Impossible. The district attorney will oppose such a move. Assistant District Attorney Oarvan. It la believed, has In hla pos session the letter written to Stanford White by Evelyn Nesblt In the stormy period preceding her marriage to Har ry Thaw. That these letters are In exlstenca known, and It was said today that they were found among White's effects and turned over to the district attorney's office. There It a possibility that the die trlct attorney may aak that a commie elon be appointed to Inquire Into Thaw’s mental state. Carnegie Is 8tarohed. Mr. and Mrs. George Luder Carnegie, the latter Harry Thaw'a sister, visited him In the Tombs today. Thoy were Joined there by Evelyn Nesblt Thaw and Roger O'Mara, the Pittsburg de t active. This waa the first visit ot Mr. Car negie to Harry Thaw since the latter has been In the Tombs. He waa sub milted to tho moot rigorous search be fore permitted to go to Thaw'a cell. ALL SOUTHERN RUSSIA SEETHING IN REVOLT Manifesto of Dissolved Douma Is Causing Endless Strife. MUTINY REPORTED , OF BIG GARRISON Prince Lvoff Declines to Ac cept a Portfolio in the Stoly Pin Cab- i inet. Just after midnight Friday night the telephone at the police station rang eharply and Call Officer Gallaher went to the box. In a moment he emerged and ran tor hie bicycle. "Burglars,” he eald. ''Burglars at the Carlton flats.” Call Officer Dunton Joined him and the two sped to the corner of Falrlle street and Carnegie way. Hare they found an excited woman with a story tell. 'You see my window le on the base ment floor and the sidewalk la almost level with It,” she explained. "I law the shadow of a man passing by. He stopped and then I heard him tiptoe The officers looked at the window and the sidewalk. Then they explained that It was very natural for a man to walk by, evsn aftsr midnight There was no trace of any burglary and they returned to the police station, leaving the frightened flat dweller to slumber again. By GEORGE FRAZER. By Private Leased Wire. 8L Petersburg, July 16.—Despite all the efforts of the government to pre vent the fact from becoming public, there Is no doubt that all of south Russia Is seething with revolt and that the situation there Is rapidly approach ing a condition of armed revolution. It Is estimated that In the govern ment Of Kharkoff there are close to 60,000 men organised, many of thsm armed and drilled by men who have served In the army. At Yusovka, one of the principal smelling centers In southern Russia, workmen have risen and seised the smelting establishment, and It Is said that troops sent to quell the uprising have Joined the rebels. Peasants Are Active. All through the south* the peas ants also are particularly actlva, and In many Instances have organised a system of guerilla warfare, which Is extremely difficult for the authorities to successfully combat. In the govern ment of Podola, attempts to arrest agi tators have been vigorously resisted by the people, and at Poskurov the whole town rose and rescued the revolution' ary leaders, who had been arrested by detachments of dragoons. In many places barricades have been erected, defense committees formed and tht announcement Is plain ly made that ahy attempt on the part of the government to collect taxes or to Interfere with the liberty of leaders will be resisted by force. Manifesto Causss Strife. 'The manifesto of the douma la being circulated as rapidly aa possible, and It Is notable that as fast aa It reaches a locality disorders begin there. Despite the fact that acorea ot men were arrested In Moscow, while plac arding the walla of the city with the manifesto, others took their places, and the city la plastered with copies of the document. A printing office was seised last night at Yaroslav by armed men and a vast number of the manifesto were run off. Another manifesto hss been Issued, addressed to the peasants, pointing out the grievances under which they suffer, and the Impossibility of their receiving any relief at the hands of the govern ment as at present constituted. Mutiny Is Rsportsd. It Is reported that a widespread mu tiny haa occurred at Kronstadt and that practically the entire garrison Is In revolt. One report haa It that the famous Bemanovsky regiment has dS' elded to cast In Its lot with the people. Prince Nicholas Lvoff has declined to accept a position In the Btolypln cabb net. Special Instructions wera Issued to day' by M. Btolypln that the Jewish deputies to the dls Unsolved douma were although under the law It Is forb for Jaws to reslds In HL Petersburg. Two new steamship lines ars to be established between Llbau and New York under government authority and with government aid. The Idea Is to make It easy for the dlssallafled ele ment to leave the empire. Measures of this kind, howsvsr, ars llksly to do vary little good. TRY A WANT AD IN THE GEORGIAN THIRTY-NINE COUNTIES SHOW GAIN OF$6,872,525 1606 show a nst gain In values of 16.672,626 over The same counties for 1606 showed a gain of 67.616,666. At first blush It would appear from these figures that the wealth of the state Is not Increasing as rapidly In 1606 aa In 1106. But an Important detail not here appearing dissipates this Idea. Sev eral of the counties In these thirty-nine are counties from which part ot their territory has been cut off Into new counties. Of course, these counties lost several large districts, the returns for which will go Into the new counties. Eliminating such districts, the thirty-nine counties will actually show an Increase over the huge total of 1006.
