Here are the Charities to Benefit
By Colossal Fortune Left by Sage
Dr. Schmuck, who for the paet eighteen years hae been the physician
for the family of Russell Sage, says that the old bond broker's widow,
at the age of 77, hoe evolved a plan by which she will distribute the
fortune, estimated at more than 278,000,000, and left to her by her hus
band's will, among certain charities, such os the Y. M, C. A„ soldiers
and sailors, and hospitals.
Ily I’rlvste Leased Wire.
New York, July 22.—Whatever may
have been the purpose of Russell Sage
In bequeathing to hla wife virtually his
entire fortunte, estimated at more than
270,000,000, the statement Is made to
day on unquestioned authority that
Mrs. Saga will give this vast sum to
charity.
Doctor Tells of Plan.
Dr. J. Carl Schmuck, who for eight
een years has been the physician and
close friend of Mrs. Sage, makes .the
announcement of the latter's intention
to devote her husband’s millions to
benevolence.
In leaving his fortune to Mrs. Sage,"
said Dr. Schmuck, "Mr. Sage haa left
It to charily. She will distribute It.
What can she do bill give It away?
How could a woman of such advanced
years upend a thousandth part of It
herself?
To Aid Y. M. C. A.
Mr. Sage knew his wife had made a
study of philanthropy, and that she
knew much more than he did about It.
. do not know Mrs. Sage's exact plans.
That she has certainly some plans I
do know. Her gifts will be along
broad lines, ns she Is deeply Interested
In educational work In vnrlous forms
of charitable enterprises: In the sol
diers nnd sailors. In the Y. M. C. A.
and In hospitals. That Is all I can say
to Indicate what will become of the
fortune."
8he Is 77 Year* Old.
Although Mrs. Sqge Is 77 years old.
Dr. Schmuck says her health Is fairly
good. She realises, however, that she
has not many years to live and for this
reason Is eager to hasten the begin
ning of her vast charitable enterprise.
If the relatives of Mr. Sage should
be dissatisfied with their portion under
the terms of the will. Dr. Schmuck said,
they would get what Mrs. Sage thought
reasonable.
Hairs Have, a Plan.
She would not attempt to prevent
them from what might be due them.
At least one lawyer, representing the
helrs-at-luw Is quoted as having made
the positive declaration that the will Is
to be contested. He says that one at
the nephews will be selected to make
the fight, although In doing so he
stands the chance of forfeiting his
share.
The other relatives will reimburse
him If the contest falls. If- he wlnB
nnd breaks the will, every one of the
nephews and nieces will probably re

Vaudeville Next Week.
"Master Jail Breaker and Handcuff
Wizard" Is tho title of tho Great Brln-
damour, who is the feature of the show
at the Casino for next week. This
wonderful man has (tussled the police
departments of the world by the easy
snd seemingly miraculous manner In
which he escapes from Jails and pris
ons and slips out of all sorts of hand
cuffs nnd manacles. Just how no does
It nobody can say, but does it, he docs,
nnd It doesn’t seem to bother him any
when he doos It.. Me has escaped from
over four hundred nnd seventy-four
prisons and enjoys the distinction of
being the only man who has escaped
front n cell In Sing H|ng prison. New
York stnte, after being Incarcerated In
a locked cell with his hands securely
handcuffed to the doors. During his
engagement In Atlanta he will invite
the police and all dealers In handcuffs
er other shackles to bring their own
Irons and lock them on him and prom
ises to escape from them In almost the
same time consumed In locking them
on him. His act Is one of the moat
mysterious In vaudeville and has cre
ated a great sensation wherever seen.
The marvelous Andrees in thought
transmission are another feature act
and do some Incredible things In the
way of mind rending. Their perform
ance Is almost ns astounding as that
of the Great Brlndamoitr.
Early and Late, comedians, do a very
clever singing comedy act and Mias
Jessie DeWelse, Instrumentalist, will
no doubt prove a great favorite with
Atlanta show-goers. Mills nn<| Mor
ris, twp clever lady bluck face artists,
who arc billed as "The Minstrel Maids,"
contribute some clever singing and
dunclng, while “Aldo and Amour,” in
"Fun on the Horizontal Bar,” are said
to be very funny and really line acro
bats of the first water. The camera-
graph with new pictures completes the
bill that will undoubtedly meet with
the hearty approval of the Casino’s
patrons.
