In order to take cars of all this business, old estab lished railroads are constructing new branches, and new lines are being built “The Atlanta and Birmingham road Is constructing a line from Brunswick to Atlanta. Ths Central of Georgia Is Improving Its lines. The Louisville and Nashville Is double-tracking and reducing grades. The Ullnols Central Is building a cut-off to Corinth. Miss. The South and Western road Is being constructed from Burton, N. C.. to Marion, controlled by the Seaboard Air Lins. Ths Southern Is constantly improving Its lines, double-tracking and extending branches. "One hundred miles of road Is being built by the North Carolina and Greet nn. Nearly all the roads are double, tracking and reducing grades. So much work la being done that labor la scarce, Including negroes, who are now getting $1.50 Instead of $1 a day.
