PRIDE KIDNAPED
RIS OWN CHILDREN
jong Chase Began at Brunswick
•Ended in Massachusetts with
McBride’s Arrest.
Requisition papers from Georgia have
been forwarded to Massachusetts for
Dr. James T. McBride, a prominent
phyelclan of Franklin Furnace, Ohio,
who Is held at Cheater on the charge
of kidnaping his two children.
The necessary papers were forward
ed Wednesday, and Dr. McBride will
be brought back to Brunswick for trial
on the charge of taking hla two little
girls from their mother by surreptitious
methods.
Dr. McBride's arrest follows a long
nnd persistent chase, which began at
Brunswick and continued through
Florida, New Jersey, New York state,
Canada, back to New York, and Dnally
ending with hla arreat at Chester, Mas
sachusetts.
Early this year Mrs. McBride went
to Brunswick with her two girls, aged
13 and 8. They had been In Florida
for • the winter, and Mre. McBride
seemed to possess means. A man
known as Thomas W. Gray was often
se,n with Airs. McBride and the chil
dren.
On May 15 Gray and the girls‘dis
appeared, and Mrs. McBride became
frantic with anxiety. She finally em
ployed John W. Connally, head of tho
secret service of the Southern railway,
and he began work at once. He soon
ascertained that Gray had persuaded
the children to go with him on the
statement that their mother had gone
to Florida by boat, and they would
meet her there.
Chief Connally also learned tfiat
Gray was really named Walter Bett-
man. and that he was employed by Dr.
McBride, who was separated from his
wife, to secure the children.
Then began the long chase which
ended with Dr. McBride's arrest In
Chester Monday. . ,
