In the day all the reeovery was lost with
prices selling nt the low figure of the pres
• nt movement. Weather In the sou tit gen-

upiH,rt worthy of name. An effort was
unde to hold the market through purchases
of Jnnunnr and DMraWr. on which holders
attempted to sell October, but the operation
failed In Its purpose, nml whenever October-
was offered the entire market broke away
rapidly. The simple fact of the matter i*
that the crop Is doing very well and Is re
ceiving so much moisture that drouth, the
only development to be feared at this sea
son. Js very far away. It is now the time
when Southern marketers of cotton will
begin to hedge their cotton with sales of
futures, and It Is difficult to see how the
market can stand this selling at Ido n
pound. It looks very much ns though there
w *s too. much cotton in prospect to en
courage buying, and either one of two
things must happen. Hither there must be
a big crop disaster or n decline In pit—
Thus far Indications seem to point to
latter.

morning was In most respects a repetltloi
of yesterday's movement. Trading was uot
particularly active, neither was It dull

tlty of buying necessary to cause a sharp
advance In prices. This charar terlstlc sp

had yesterday, giving the market n broad
er aspect. While previous favorites, like
St. Paul and Union and Southern Pacific,
returned to their high price levels again,
they no longer In tho same degree monop
olized the trading Interest. The whole

nnd active, ns also went the Steels, t
Missouri Pacific nnd other of tiie dominant
southwestern stocks showed signs of
sldcmble life.
In the stock mnrket. Initial prices show-
1 a gain of V in Amalgamated. New
York Central. St. Paul. Colorado Find nnd
Smelting common. Northwestern and Rend
ing were up Ue; St. Paul gained V. Erio

Following the general gains made nt the
opening, the market continued strong all
through the first hour, ami prices general

of a factor than It hn* been for some time.
Arbitrage brokers took fully 25,000 shares.
Pennsylvania was n prominent feature of
the early trading, and «:i- bout'llt on it
large scnle by strong houses. Colorado
Fuel advanced 14r on buying by the annul
Interests that were active In Northern Pu-

Alabama—-Fair weather with ample
sunshine prevailed during the first four
days. The last three days were gen
erally cloudy with showers over the
greater part of the state, the rainfall
being heavy In a few widely scattered
localities. The temperature was nearly
normal.
Arkansas—The sunshine was abun
dant and the temperature above the
normal and favorable. Rainfall very
light and below normal everywhere tx
cept In Union county. Beneficial show
era occurred In the northeastern coun-

Georgia—over most of the stato the
weather was cloudy with frequent
showers, the rainfall being heavy to
excessive In scattered localities, but
below the normnl In most districts.
The humidity was high and the tem
perature moderate, the latter being
from 1 degree to 2 degrees below the
normal.
Louisiana—The weather was partly
cloudy and light scattered showers oc
curred every day. The precipitation,
however, was below the normal except
In a few localities where the rainfall
tvas between 1 and 2 inches. Temper
ature and sunshine about normal.
Mississippi—The weather was gen
erally fair with abundant sunshine ex
cept during the closing days, when
local showers occurred. The rainfall
exceeded one Inch over small areas In
the eastern and southern portions, but
elsewhere was generally light. Tem
perature was comparatively uniform
and nearly normal.
North t'nrollna—The weather was
generally cloudy and sultry- There
was small range of temperature
throughout the week, the mean being
nearly normal. The rainfall averaged
somewhat below the normal; but was
excessive In the central and some cast
ers counties and caused considerable
dAmage.
Oklahoma and Indian Territory—The
mean temperature was slightly below
the normal. The forepart of the week
was dry, warm and clear. The latter
part was cooler and cloudy with light
to copious showers over the entire sec
tion.
South Carolina—The weather was
generally cloudy with frequent show
ers over the whole state. The precipi
tation was heaviest In the gorthem.
western and southeastern counties,
where It was much above the normal.
Mean temperature slightly below the
normal.
Texas—Scattered light to heavy
showers occurred dally, being most
numerous on Sunday. The rainfall
was heavy in western, southwestern,
north central nnd northern counties
and below the normal In the extreme
northwestern portion on the Immediate
coast and In eastern and numerous
centra! counties. The mean tempera
ture was below the normal except In o
number of the northwestern counties
and on the southwestern coast, where
It was not mat. Hunshlne Is much
needed In many localities.
Tennessee—Temperature averaged
about normal except In the western
portion, where It' was above. The
rainfall wns considerably below the
rmal. consisting of scattered show-
