What manner of man Is this chap

To slip from handcuffs, chains or

pastime for him.
That kind of thing Is baffling dnough
to moat of us, but when this slender,
gentlemanly fellow allows himself

a curious crowd that packed every

Brtndamour accepted It. The box waa
prepared by the firm, and was made
of good stout boards and the exhlbl

_n the center of the stage waa a red-
curtained booth behind which the box
was rolled. The committee took sta

possible outside collusion. The box
with Its human contents waa hidden
behind the curtain at exactly 9 o'clock.
Flro minutes passed amid a breath
less hush. No sound came from the
stage. Afterwards one of the commit

by him as he stood within a foot of
the booth waa a muffled scuffling.
When ten minutes had passed some
one started a hand-clapping, but It fell
dead with no response from the audi

wondering expectancy.
At fourteen minutes past 9 the cur
