cotton market was active with bear
pressure strongly In evidence, the
crowd assuming It to be In part at least
for lower Wall street.’ After the call
the list extended Its decline to about 10
points representing a new low record
for the season.

havior of the market In the last half
hour of Saturday’s session had fore-

shrinkage of bunk reserves or by the
comparative firmness which followed It
In today's money market. Both call
and time loans were maintained at
last week’s higher level, but quotations
went nd higher. The bulk of the day’s
new credit business on the stock ex
change was arranged for from 4 to
1-3 per cent. On the other hand,
some encouragement was afforded by a
further decline In sterling exchange to
day, and by the disclosure that the
banks start the week with a gain of
31,100,000 in their operations at the
subtreasury. The ruling ngures on de
mand sterling are now so closs to tho

any moment are likely. If money rates
were to rise any higher than they are
It would Immediately precipitate the
movement, and It Is evident that rely
ing on this Is why the stock market re
fuses to take a more serious view of

points on the 9c fare derision and the
disturbances occasioned by It on the
company's line yesterday. But the gen
eral list was entirely unaffected by the
