It Is understood that the defense Is pre
paring to show that Thnw was temporarily
Insane when he killed Stanford White on
the roof of the Madison Square Garden.

charge of the Virginia Military Institute

Wells; judge of election In the Twelfth
ward, testified on the witness stand In
the franchise election contest before
Judge Benjamin. B .Lindsey, that she
was approached by S. S. Campbell, of
the Denver Gas and Electric Company,
before election and offered $25 If her
precinct was carried for the gua fran
chise. She added that an additional
offer was made of a position In the
gas company’s office for her niece if the
precinct returned a favorable major
ity. Another witness testified that sev-
enteen ballots were cost In a precinct
after the polls were closed.

Oklahoma City, Qkla., Aug. 22.—
James F. Sharp, who says he Is Adatn,
and a band of followers number about
60, marched through the streets today
from their abandoned camp outside of
the city. They are on their way to
the Pacific coast. Sharp led a parade
of half nude persons through the
streets here about a year ago, which
resulted in one of the band being sent
to the asylum.
Sharp returned here a few' weeks ago
and established a camp east of town,
where many of hls followers went with
out clothing, under tho belief that they
were in the Garden of Eden. They were
arrested time and time again and
fined.
In the parade through the streets
today were many little children who
had marched. Covered wagons con
taining a doxen or more babies brought
up the rear of the parade.

Business Good In Mississippi.

Jackson, Miss., Aug. 22.—Business
conditions In Mississippi since the first
of January have been unusually good
and the records at the office ’ of the
United States court clerk show that the
number of bankruptcy cases has fallen
off considerably. Since February the
failures have been exceedingly small,
each failure not averaging more than
2500.
Arm Torn From Body.

-year-old son of J. E. Slinerly, residing
at Inland Mills, thla county, had hls
right arm caught In the cogs of a mill
wheel today and waa probably fatally
Injured. The arm waa practically torn
from his body.

nald C. Vanderbilt, who waa Miss
Kathleen Nellsnn, waa placed under the
surgeon's knife today for a serious
operation In the Vanderbilt summer
place, Sandy Point Farm, South Ports
mouth township, not far from Newport.
Dr. Bull and Dr. Flint, of New York,
were hurriedly brought to Newport In
a special car, while Drs. Charles Stew
art and Jacoby, among the most expert
surgeons of Newport, were called In to
aid the New York practitioners In the
performance of the operation.

While hanging paper on the celling
above a large plate glass window at
the Piedmont Wall Paper Company, O.
L. St. Clair, a paper hanger, who lives
at 30 Luckio street, slipped from hls
position on the ladder and was pain
fully, but not seriously, Injured. The
ladder on which St. Clair was working
at the time fell through the plate glass
window, smashing It Into bits.
The Injured man was carried to hls
home In the Grady hospital ambulance.
