Tugnlo, Ga., Sept. 3.—Laat Wednes day night at 12 o'clock lightning struck the barn of V. A. White, one of the moat prominent cltlxens of Stephens county, destroying two large barns, several bales of cotton, and farming Implements. Baltimore, Md., Sept. 3.—A young woman's screams attracted a police man and a crowd on West Fayette street today. They saw a mqn drag the woman out of the house, knock her down with his fist and kick her Into the street. The man was George W. Bishop and the victim was his wife. But for the timely arrival of tho police Bishop would have been roughly han dled by the Indignant cltlxens, an threats of lynching were being made. The woman told tho police she left her husband seven months ago because of III treatment; that she returned to hhn rccentty, but last night had to flee from Ills home. She took refuge at a boarding house, where he found her today, and renewed his savage attack upon her. Bishop Is locked up for po lice court. Governor Terrell thlnka that It would imperil the fate of the amendment providing for the new court of appeals If the state convention Tuexday should nominate three candidates for the places. It might make tho friends of the oth er four or five dozen candidates Indif ferent or antagonistic to the amend ment, and this same view Is actuating the leaders of the Hoke Smith cam paign to be a little wary of this ques tion. Governor Terrell said Monday that about October 16 would be a good time to hold a primary to nominate these judges. That would give ample time for the returns to be tabulated, so that the nominees could be voted for at the congressional election the Tuesday after the first Monday In No vember. DR. Harrisonburg. Va., Sept. 3.—Charles Crigley, aged 14 years, was killed at Llnvllle, four miles north of Harrison burg, last night. Crigley was struck over tho heart by Clay Campbell, u 10-year-old boy, and expired in five minutes. An Investigation was made in behalf of the authorities, but no ar rests have been made. Crigley and Campbell were boxing, according to tho best Information ob tainable today. He struck Campbell a blow and the latter retaliated with a blow directly over the heart. Crigley staggered for a moment and then fell to the ground. He was carried to a store whore he expired without regain ing consciousness.
