10 THE ATLANTA GEORGIAN. CONG RE GA TIONISTS HAVE A CCOMPL1SHED MUCH HERE The Congregattonallsts have been growing rapidly In the South. In re rent yean, and Just now they are en tering upon new and extensive' plan* of work and development. Since the coming of the Rev. Frank E. Jenkins. DJD., to the pastorate of the Central Congregational church of this city, eight years ago, this church has been made central not only In name, but In fact to the entire Con gregational wofk In Georgia. By Its leadership. Piedmont College, at Dem- orest. Ga, with 400 students, has been organized and developed until It now has six buildings In use and Is Just completing .Its flr*t $100,000 endow ment. . The Congregational board ap propriates $9,000 a year for its run ning expenses, while other large sums are secured by direct solicitation from Congregatlonallsts throughout the country'- the yearly running expense* being between 12,000 and $15,000. Plans are under way to secure buildings and endowment for one of the largest amf strongest Institutions In the South. The church was Instrumental also In organizing and developing Atlanta Theological Seminary for the training of pastor* for the Congregational chufches of the South. It has a beau tiful campus of about 10 acres on Sher man Heights and a building that pro vides for about thirty students. The call has come to It for from twenty-live to thirty new pastors a year, and this will require Immediate enlargement of equipment. The plans contemplate a seminary of not less than 100 students for the ministry, as soon as suitable men can be gathered. By the action of the Congregational Home Missionary Society this church became, October 1, central to the entire tensive work. Heretofore four men have been employed, but hereafter this work Is to be confined under this one leadership, with assistants In the dif ferent states. In addition to this, the superlntend- ency of the Congregational educational Institution* In the South—with the ex ception of Rollins College, Florida, and Horsby Academy, Alabama, is to be given November 1 to Dr. Paul Doug lass, now professor of philosophy In Drury College, Missouri, who |s to move to Atlanta and enter the corps of Congregational workers In this church. Thus seventy-two Important educational Institutions uind several hundred churches will Add their gen era! guidance from this church. Besides the state superintendent of Sunday school work. Rev. J. F. Black burn, Is a member of this Working force. In connection with the new work undertaken by the present pastor, Im portant changes are making In the methods and personnel of the pastor ate. Rev. D. J. Ellison, D.D., comes from New York this week to take charge of the pulpit. Dr. Ellison was former ly pastor of a large and wealthy Bap tist church In Indianapolis, Ind.. which has offered him every Inducement, financial and otherwise, to return to Its pastorate, but he has decided to come to Atlanta. He has a wide repu tation as a pulpit orator and gospel preacher, and has always filled the houses where he has preached. In the large auditorium of the Central church, which easily seats 1,000, and will hold more, he will have ample opportunity to show his drawing power. Besides he will have the Intellectual and spir itual leadership of seven or eight ac tive denominational leaders and work er*,' and of many students f ir the DENTAL WORK AT GOST COLLEGE SEASON NOW OPEN A large number of parties can be waited on at reg ular college price*—"Cost of Materials." No green students are allowed to enter this school, but dentists of several years' experience come to learn the newest things In the business. ATLANTA POST-GRADUATE DENTIL SCHOOL, Take Elevator. 2d Floor Steiner-Emery Bldg., Atlanta, Ga. Dr. W. S. Cenway, Mgr Dr. Conway also will attend to his private practice. ^ Congregational home missionary work ministry In addition to the leadership of all the Southern states. Its pastor of the regular church work. It ts an haa been elected secretary of this ex- opportunity like this that has brought a strong man like Dr. Ellison to this work. , Miss Nellie Sdgg, well known among the church workers of Atlanta, has been secured as pastor's assistant. She will work especially among the poor people, and will organize the church for special Bible study and will have charge of the details of the parish work. Dr. Jenkins will continue for the pres ent to direct the administrative work of the nastorate. It Is probable that the Congregatlon allsts' will soon have some kind of an office building In Atlanta. It has been suggested that an addition be made to the buildings of the Central church for „„„ Congregational offices for denomlna- their bearing upon the second coming of el— M n t *.,i«t«nSAS ,, — ,1 n nVArv/xsl 11 ah f'll riel T h o nssios M.
