Nearly every large city In th* country provide* drinking fountains fop dogs and horses as a necessity. And they are continually In service, and tba lives of many horses and dog* have been saved during the hot month* by these fountain*. I had occasion to make a vfslt of inspection to a rich man's su blet end was amaxed at the comfort provtdfd for the horses. All were thor- ougbbrede and all were the handsom est specimens I had ever seen. In the rich man’s hall waa a case filled with blue ribbons end medals, which hod been won at horse shows throughout th* country by his line horses, and af ter 1 had seen the way they were cared for I was not surprised. Each hone had a stall to hltnself, of coune; but they were not the untidy, lll-amelltng stall one usually sees. The walls were Hied and th* floors hod sewer connec tions. Thero was a white enamelled baths and electric fane for the horses, and the windows Were screened to keep out the flies and tnosqultoea. These drinking trough for each horse. Among ocher conveniences there were shower precautions, I found out, were not un common tn the stables of wealthy peo ple. The rich man’s daughter owned a number of very handsome and valua ble dogs, and these were as well taken car* of as the horse*. Been dog had a separate kennel, end there waa a man who washed and groomed the animals every day. This show* that the world Is grow ing better In the wav the dumb ani mals are treated.
