TO BEGIHT ONCE Council Forced to Turn Down Bitulithic Because of Lack of Labor. It Is expected that before November work will have been begun on the repaving of Peachtreet street with as phalt. The bid of the Asphalt Paving Com pany of Georgia wm unanimously ac cepted by the ' city council Monday, providing It Is decided to have the work done. The council thought It had already done this, but it hadn't. The law require* that the assessment against the property owners of the street to be paved be advertised for ten days before the work Is provided for. City Attorney Mayson held that would be all right to accept the bid subject to the decision of the council to do the work, after advertising Ite Intentions. This is only a technical point, but It d< fiys the work two weeks. Councilman Roberts, who votsd for bitulithic In the committee, explained that he would vote for asphalt, not because he had changed hi* opinion and thought It was bettar than bitu lithic, but he said that when hla vote . the matter wan published a few days ago, people on the south side did not atop disagreeing with him over the telephone until he stopped answering. He said he believed that. people who had to uss a street most should say what It should be paved with, and, therefore, moved that the report of the committee In favor of asphalt be ac cepted. The bitulithic people will not mako any fight before the aldermanlc board, which meets Thursday. Tl)e bid on asphalt was $1.14 per square yard, and that of the Southern Bitulithic Com pany was $1 for the seme work, or 11.15 If the county furnished the labor. A conference with the county com missioners has shown that they cannot put the chalngang to work on the street until awsy next summer some time, and the $2 bid Is. of course, en tlrely out of the question. The fnct thnt the bitulithic company was in the field, however, saved the city tome $12,000, It Is estimated. WILL DRAW BIG CROWD TO CITY Preparations For Largest Meeting of That Sect Ever in South.
