MARRIAGE OF DR. R. T. DORSEY
AND MISS LAURA WITHAM.
One of the most beautiful home wed-
■ lings ever seen In the city was that of
Dr. Rufus T. Dorsey and Miss Laura
Wftham, which took place Thursday
evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
William 8. Wltham, on Peachtree
street. In the presence of a large num
ber of relatives and friends. Dr. Walk
er Lewis performed the ceremony be
fore an Improvised altar of palms and
white chrysanthemums.
Ml*s. Eflle Beale Phelan was maid of
honor, and Mr. Hugh Dorsey was best
man. The bridesmaids were Miss Em
ily Lowndes, Miss Msrtha Whitman
and Miss Agnes Lad son. The grooms
men were Mr. Toly Williams, Mr.
Sims Bray and Mr. John Glenn. Mr.
Stuart Wltham and Mr. John Keene
were ushers.
.The bridal party descended the stairs
and passed through an aisle formed
of 1 white ribbons, reaching from the
stairway to the drawing rooms, whero
they were caught with bunches of
white chrysanthemums.
The ushers came flrst. followed by
the bridesmaids and groomsmen. Thr
mold of honor preceded the bride, who
entered with her father, Mr. W. 8.
Wltham.
The bride's elegant gown was of
white satin de Lyon, the graceful folds
of which gave a similar effect to that
of the empire style. The bodice and
skirt were appllqued with bands and
medallions of duchesse and rose point
lace, of unusual depth and beauty.
The lace corsage *had a klmono-Ilke
drapery of white satin, extending from
the shoulders to the satin girdle at the
waist. The sleeves were also of rich
lace, edged with chenille and small
white flowers. The bride's tulle veil
was adjusted with orange blossoms,
and her bouquet was of orchids and
lilies of the valley.
The maid of honor. Miss Eflle Beale
Phelan, wore a handsome toilette of
white chiffon cloth with bands of white
satin and trimmings of.lace. Her bou
quet was of white roses, tied with
white tulle.
The gowns of the bridesmaids were
of white chiffon cloth, trimmed with
lace. They carried bouquets of Atnerl-|
can beauty roses.
Mrs. Wltham. mother of the bride,
wore a beautiful costume of white em
broidered silk, made prlncesse.
Mrs. R. T. Dorsey, mother of the
groom, was gowned In a stylish gray
silk mull, lace trimmed. Mrs. Cochran,
grandmother of the bride, wore a hand
some costume of black silk and lace.
Miss Sarah Dorsey's toilette was
becoming creation of pale pink silk
and lace.
The floral decorations of Mr. and
Sirs. Wltham's horns were profuse ami
artistic to an unusual degree. Palms
In brass Jardinieres were placed In the
hallway, with tropical effect, while
branches of Southern smllax were,
etched against the beautifully tinted
wnlln of hall and drawing' rooms.
The electric lights were softened by
sprays of asparagus ferns and the
mantels were banked with ferns and
white roses.
The bridal party were served, at sup
per In the library, where the decora
tions were of white chrysanthemums,
ferns and palms. White tulle stream
ers and garlands of smllax reached
from the corners of the room to the
chandelller. where they were pictur
esquely caught with wedding bells of
white roses and lilies of the valley.
From the smaller bells hung a larger
bell of lilies of the valley and white
roses, from which depended a shower
of white tulle caught with lilies of
the valley. The table was covered
With exquisite linen, bordered with
Cluny lace, on which was a handsome
large plateau of orchids, bride rosea
and lilies of the valley, around which
were placed silver candlesticks with
crystal fringed white silk shades.
Bonbons and other accessories were
held In silver and cut glass dishes,
while small baskets filled with bride
roses and lilies of the valley were
placed at Intervals on the table. The
place cards represented white roses
and were decorated with the monogram
of the bride and groom In silver letters.
A delightful buffet supper was served.
The wedding rake, elaborately
trimmed, was cut for and catching
the bride's bouquet occasioned much
merriment. Miss Emma Belle Lowndrn
being the fortunate one to whom It fell.
Mr. and Mrs. Dorsey left on the mid
night train for an extended trip East.
The bride's golng-away gown was n
handsome one of brown voile, trimmed
with Persian embroidery. Her hat was
a becoming one of brown. Upon their
return they will reside on Juniper
street, corner of Eleventh.

A quiet wedding at the home of Cap
tain R. M. Gaffney, former mayor of
Gaffney, was that of Mrs. Rosa Roun
tree, daughter of Captain Gaffney, and
Mr. Frank E. Wilson, of Durham, N. C..
whose marriage took place Wednesday
at Gaffney, S. C. The ceremony was
performed by Rev. Sldi B. Harper, of
Buford 8treet M. E. church. Mrs. J.
Frank Laney, of Mdnroe, N. C.,' Miss
Myrtle Gaffney, sister of the bride, and
Howard Gaffney, of Union, 8. C., with
only a few friends witnessed the mar
riage. The young couple left for a
Northern trip on the S:20 p. m. train,
and In future will reside at Durham,
N. C.
EPWORTH LEAGUE.
The Epworth League of Walker
8trcet church will hold a social meet
ing Friday evening at 8:30 o'clock
at the parsonage, 10 Walker street. All
the young people of the church are In

Miss Ethel Mobley and Mrs. R. L.
Cooney were the guests of honor at
Miss Emma Robinson's tea Friday aft
ernoon. The whole lower floor of. the
attractive home was decorated -with
golden rod and yellow chrysanthemums.
In the dining room roses were used
with pretty effect on the table and the
lights and shades were also pink.
Miss Robinson was gowned in blue
silk, mado prlncesse, and trimmed with
lace.
Miss Ethel Mobley wore a toilette of
pate blue crepe de chine, fashioned
with lace and chiffon.
Mrs. Cooney was much admired In a
pink chiffon gown, artistically trimmed
with prlncesse lace.
The Invitations were confined to the
Intimate friends of Miss Mobley and
Mrs. Cooney.
LUNCHEON TO MISS PEEL.
Miss Sarah Peel was the guest of
honor at a buffet luncheon given Fri
day by Mrs. Henry 8. Johnson, Jr., at
her home, on Juniper street. The house
was picturesque with Its decorations
of palms and ferns. In the dining
room on the buffet there was a mound
of fruits and flowers, around which
graceful ferns were used with pleasing
effect. The guests were seated at
small tables and were served with de
licious refreshments.
Mrs. Johnson, Jr„ wore a becoming
toilette of red voile over white silk.
Miss Peel was handsome In a gown
of gray voile, trimmed with Cluny
lace. She wore a hat of cream, faced
with black velvet, nnd trimmed with
cream plumes.
Mrs. H. 8. Johnson's gown was of
black crepo de chine, fashioned with
rich lace.
Miss Marlon Peel wore a toilette of
old rose broadcloth, trimmed with Irish
lace. Her hat of old rose was trimmed
with mink.
TO MISS HOUSTON.

which Mrs. Joseph Hines entertained
Thursday afternoon at her home, on
West Peachtree street, in honor of her
little guest, Miss Oella Houston,
Anniston, Ala. About 16 young people

a compliment to Mrs. Hines' attractive

and cut flowers. In the dining room’

yellow chrysanthemums. The place

Mrs. Hines received her guests In a

trimmed with lace.
Mrs. Houston wore a charming
toilette of pompadour silk, and Mrs.
John Hines was gowned In a smart suit
of gray cloth.

Dr. and Mrs. R. J. Massey enter
tained nt a family dinner Tuesday In
celebration of Dr. Massey's seventy-
eighth birthday. The guests were only
members of the family, but the occa
sion was one of great pleasure. Dr.
Massey, who Is one of the best-known
writers In the city, received many con-
gratulatlons front his friends and ad
mirers.

Friday afternoon Miss Nell Phillips
entertained at a very enjoyable card
party In honor of her attractive guest,
Miss Mnry Neal, of Nashville. The
occasion was altogether Informal,, only
It of the girl friends of Miss Phillips
being Invited. Miss Phillips' home was
decorated artistically with quantities of
garden rosea and at the conclusion of
the game a dollclous luncheon was
served at the card tables.
Miss Phillips received her guests In a
pretty toilette of white silk, trimmed
with lace. -
. Miss Neal's gown was also of white
silk, elaborately fashioned with Valen
ciennes lace.
The guest of honor was presented
with a pretty water color, and the flrst
prise was a pair of silk hose. The con
solation wns a charming picture.

the attractive guest of Mrs. J. E. C.
Pedder, will be the guest of honor at a
beautiful dinner to be given by Mr.
and Mrs. Pedder at the Capital City

Hitchcock, of Tallapoosa, and Mr. Wil
liam H. George, of Atlanta, which took
place at the home of the bride's pa
rents In Tallapoosa, Is of Interest to a
wide circle of friends In Atlanta. The
ceremony was performed by Rev. A.
R. Holderby. Immediately after the
ceremony Sir. and Sirs. George left
for a visit In the East. They will re
turn to Atlanta about November I.

Club met Friday morning at the club-
rooms, the Grand. The regular meet
ing of the club will take place Slonday
afternoon and the work for the year
will be discussed and planned.

of the city and circulating libraries,
ask 'all who can to donate books for
this worthy cause.

tained at an Informal dinner Wednes
day evening at their home on Peach
tree, the occasion being tho seven
teenth anniversary of their wedding.
The table had as a centerpiece a
vase of pink nnd white roses. Palms
and ferns were used In the drawing
room.
