BULLISH OR BEARSSH
GINNING FIGURES
“There Is a great deal of talk about
what figures will be bearish and what bull
ish as to the amount of cotton ginned up
to October 18,” said one of the belt-posted
and most conservative cotton men In New
York. . “Speculators nre making ai\ effort
to warp the judgment of the market to suit
their own purposes. Let us take a fair

New York, Oct. 23.—None of the disturb

Came to pas*. The English situation, us
disclosed In the weekly Imnk statement,
turned out to be stronger than anticipated.
Our own market moved quite Independ
ently of those abroad. American stocks, to
lie sure, were down in London, but there
was no henry foreign telllag. The main
Influence here wns the Inertia which luis
been visibly growing for several days In
the local speculation and which fs ba«»*d
on the Idea that, whether prices work much
lower or not, they cannot, under existing
circumstances, tie expected to have much of
a rise. There was • no urgent liquidation,
however, and at mid-day a slightly firmer
undertone was disclosed.
