Oct. 31.—The bright est minds of the women of Georgia i sembled in Americus today at ithe opening of the annual state convention of the United Daughters of tha Con federacy. Many delegates arrived la*L evening and the morning trains in creased the nuinbsr considerably* The annual session will not be all work, for interspersed with the more serious ad dresses and reports there will be fea tures of entertainment arranged by the local chapter. At the formal opening this morning the invocation was by Rev, J, P, Ward- law and the -address of greeting by Mayor B. A. Hawkins. Mrs. Walter Lamar, of Macon, made graceful sponse to the greetings on behalf of the visiting Daughters. The remainder of the day was taken up with the ad dress of the president, the reports of other officers and committees and rou tine business, in all the addresses touching reference was made to tite death of Mrs. Jefferson Davis. Macon, Ga., Oct. 31.—While at work in .the yards of the Central of Georgia railroad last night about 6:30 o'clock, W. A. Hope, 22 years old, waa run down by a switch engine and Injured so badly that he died while being taken to the city hospital. The governor of Iowa, hls staff, and a special train of prominent citizens of hls state, will be here first. Following them, the governor of Wisconsin and a party Equally as large of prominent citizens and officials of hls state,will come to Atlanta. Both parties will moke tours of the South, dedicating the monuments to the dead soldiers of their respective states. Both states have monuments at Andersonvllle, which will be dedi cated In November. The Iowa party will be in Anderson- vllle on November 16. Coming back from Andersohvllle and’ on their way to Lookout Mountain, the party will stop In Atlanta. They will be here all of November 17, and a large portion of »the day of November 18. On November 19 the Iowan* will dedicate a monu ment at Lookout fountain. The following Is the Itinerary of*the Iowa party; Vicksburg, November 15; Andcrson- vllle, November 16; Atlanta, November 18; Lookout Mountain. November 19; Missionary Ridge, November 19; Rose ville Gap, November 20, and Shiloh, November 23. The itinerary of the Wisconsin party has not been announced.
