representing the Japanese community,

been brought In the circuit court to
compel the board of education to allow
the subjects of the mikado to attend
the schools of the city.
The school department of the city
refuses lo make any concessions to the
Japanese, and President Allman, of the
school boon), has plainly Informed Sec
retary Metcalf that ho would obey the
state law to the letter. This law re
quires separate schools.

San Francisco, Cal., Nov. 3.—Signifi
cant action was taken by the Japanese
of this city Friday afternoon when they
dismissed the suit begun sometime ago
to force the authorities to admit Japan-
children to all public schools of
San. Francisco.
It was stated by attorneys that front
now on the Japanese will mnke no ef
fort to oppose exclusion through court
proceedings, liut they will stnnd flrinly
on their treaty tights and contend that
the Washington government must put
children back In school,; from which
they have been barred by the board of
education.

was riding along Capitol avenue on a
bicycle when, through no fault of his,
he was knocked over nnd beHldes the
cracked cranium and fractured leg, was
otherwise badly bruised up.
In another suit against the street car
company Moses Green, a butler and
house servant, asks Judgment for
$2,000 because he says he was nssuult-
ed without cuuse by a Peachtree car
conductor. In addition to being struck
with something hard in the hands of
the conductor, his dignity also suffered.
It was learned at the police station .
Saturday morning that the police have !
unearthed n clew that may soon bring
developments in the case of the little
baby girl, deserted by her parent* anil j
found Thursday night In the weed* In
a vacant lot at DcKulb avenue and
Delta street* Inman Park.
Policeman Coogler, who ha* been de
tailed on the case, Is working on the
clew In an effort to bring to Justice
the person* who so cruelly abandoned
the child. The nature of the clew has
not been divulged, but It Is regarded us
strong and one which may soon dissi
pate the mystery of the unknown
hitd. ,
Chief Jennings stated Saturday that
If an arrest I* made, warrants charging
both cruelty and abandonment will be
sworn out.
Further developments In the case will
be watched with great Interest. The
baby, which is about one month old, Is
still In the Home for the Friendless.

McLean, master of the British tramp
steamship Osceola, charged with un
lawfully detaining aboard his ship two
