NO PRISONERS FOR COURT;
ELECTION DA > BREAKS ALL
RECORDS OF POLICE DEPT.
There wu no session of police court
. Wednesday afternoon, nnd thereby
* hangs the story of the most remarka
ble record in the history of that cele
brated tribunal.
. At the close of the morning session,
during which only eight or ten cases
were disposed of. Recorder Broyles In
structed Clerk Preston to adjourn the
court until 8:30 o’clock Thursday
tmorning, because of the absence of any
business for the afternoon session.
Not a case appeared on the docket
for trial in the afternoon, u condition
never before known since the estab
lishment of police court.
This remarkable situation follows
election tloy, on which all saloons In
the city were tightly closed. Recorder
llroyles declares the dosing of the sa
loon* Is responsible for putting the aft-
ernoon session «f court out of busi
ness.
“The fuel that we have bjen com
pelled to adjourn court until Thurs
day morning for lack of business Is
certainly a splendid temperance lec
ture,” remarked the recorder.
