whatever upon the ruling price • of

no more than the subject of nominal
quotation, as there is very little time
money offering at any figure. The
stock market seemed to he buoyed up
yesterday, even more than was the
case Tuesday, by the hope that strong
measures of relief for the money situ
ation would be put In force within the
Tiext twenty-four hours by the secre
tary of the treasury. Dispatches from
Washington reported the secretary as
saying that he did not regard the
money situation In New York as such
that Invited alleviation at his hands,
and In high banking circles the belief
was not entertained that the secretary
would. In the near future at least, do
anything to make money more plenti

asserted throughout the day on the

Washington that the government would
anticipate payment of $12.000.oon in

the market yielded again to pre.-amV,
as a result of high call money rntea,

Northern and ore land certificates I,
re-assuring to holders of these Issue,
and while the advance In Canadian Pa.

factor In the day’s trading, largely the
result of German and English buying.
If the action qf the secretary of the
treasury Is anticipating government
bond Interest payments so far ahead
be.part of a plan to relieve the money

It," his action Is much more signifi
