The report of a strike of 17 switch
men of the Southern road Tuesday In
lire Inman yards is vigorously denied
by Yardmastcr Walts, who claims that
only two or three men quit work.
"There Is nothing In the report,” said
Yardmaster Walts Wednesday morn
ing. “Two or three of the men quit
because they didn’t want lo work, I
reckon. That’s all there was to It.
There are no non-union men at work.
Switching is going on In this >ard as
usual.”
The switchmen claim, however, that
seventeen of them quit work because
their foreman, John Bradley, was fired I
by the yardmaster. They assert that I
he was competent and that bis work
was up to the standard. They say
further thet the yardmaster sent out I
after several non-union switchmen and |
that out of the seven who reported, five
refused to go to work after the trouble
was explained to them.
The trouble lias not been given nny l
official notice outside the yardmaster** :
office. The rumor had not even reached {
